is it too soon to be looking for jobs posting resumes up on websites etc? I know the EAD takes a few weeks but still with the economy is the way it is.. what is everyone else doing?

EAD takes about 90 days from when you apply for it (not from when you enter). Take that into account.

Also check out the job market where you are moving and see who is hiring. These are really crappy times indeed :(

Never to soon to be looking - but, what happens if the company picks you and you can't work because you don't have the EAD?

You just wasted their time and they may not re-consider you again, so choose wisely!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Did you get your passport stamped employment authorized at your POE?

I was able to work almost right away. I applied for a social after about 2 weeks of being in the US as I had the employment authorized for 90 days stamp. I got a sales associate job with the company my wife works for the remainder of the 90 days. I had to stop working there for 3 weeks as my EAD arrived 3 weeks after the 90 day period but they then took me back while I looked for other work. It wasn't much, didn't pay well but it did two things for me. It gained me some work experience from an american employer and it provided some income so that I didn't feel like a burden to my wife. Oh and it enabled me to beter understand what my wife does for a living so that when she now tells me all about her day I know what she is talking about. :D
