I have not seen any posts from those who did DCF in Vietnam. I am getting married in Singapore at the end of the month and then going to the USCIS on Monday in HCMC to file I-130 and other papers. My wife is Vietnamese. I'm from the United States, but have my Vietnamese residency card and work papers showing I've been here over two years. Can anyone give me an idea of how long the entire process takes or the papers I may need from the United States as the process continues? My folks are flying in for the wedding, so I thought it might be a good idea for them to pick up anything that might be important. Thanks!

My friend is doing DCF in Vietnam as well. Can you give me any sense of how long the process took for you? Hopefully you're finished by now.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Wow, that was a while ago. It took about 3-4 months. We filed with the USCIS on the last day of March. The documentation was received by the consulate mid May. They finally were ready to deal with us mid June and gave us an interview date of mid July. There was a bit or running around to file papers and see doctors. I think the only confusion was my tax returns. They were in order, but had negative numbers due to employment and residency in Vietnam, which is a tax deduction in the United States. Luckily I explained how this worked to my wife who was able to explain it at the consulate. So we passed the first time! We got the passport stamp about a week later, which was good till January. We left in October for San Francisco and are now living in San Jose. It was in late November when the social security card and green card showed up. Don't bother trying to get a job or bank account until they do. My wife is now a real estate agent for manufactured homes and enjoys living close to the Vietnamese shopping district. We never go into the Vietnamese mall, but she loves the Vietnamese grocery store.

For anyone who lives in San Francisco, take advantage of the many many free non-credit English classes made available to residence. It seems like no other city does this but San Francisco. My wife's understanding of English doubled from the experience in one semester, giving her the job opportunities she would not have had otherwise.

There may be some confusion here.. did you live in VN for 6 months or more and file directly at the consulate or did you marry and send the docs to the US?
