I saw the March approval today, and one with an RFE so I am very happy for them. But, you know, I filed earlier than they did, got my RFE before they got theirs.....etc......and still, as of a minute ago, no touches or anything.

Anyway - today is my independence day! I closed on the house that I owned with my ex. He's paid and I don't have to answer his calls, read his emails, listen to his snotty, snotty comments about my life, ANYMORE!!! WOOOO FREAKIN HOOOOOO!!!!!

Okay, snoopy dance over for now. But I might do a snoopy dance again later on!

03/26/09 : NOA1

09/23/09 : NOA2

11/13/09 : APPROVED and visa in hand!!!

Hope so! You guys definitely need to get out of VSC Hell!

That raises an unrelated and somewhat esoteric question... is NVC analogous to Purgatory, or just a higher circle of Hell than VSC?

Awesome Missy! That's great news! Here's hoping that when it comes to good news for you, when it rains, it pours!

Stephen... I wonder if you are stuck at the NVC in background checks? and if the NVC is waiting on the same agency that I am waiting on?

Stephen... I wonder if you are stuck at the NVC in background checks? and if the NVC is waiting on the same agency that I am waiting on?

As far as I've been able to gather, all NVC does on approved K-1 petitions is run an FBI name check on the beneficiary. That's supposed to come back right away, though: USCIS already ran one just prior to approving the petition, and if a name check has been done on the person within 120 days, FBI doesn't repeat it, they just send the results of the recent check.

BUT... I think we may be getting screwed because Elisha's Korean. Asian names can be Romanized in many different ways, and from what I've read the State Department's software requests name checks on numerous spelling variations of Asian names, whereas USCIS just runs the spelling provided on the applications. So... we may indeed both be waiting on the FBI to clear these name checks.

Please don't take any of the foregoing as definitive, by the way; it's merely my understanding of what little I've been able to find on these subjects.

Well, it is plausible... and certainly better than knowing nothing.

our petition is still @ NVC too. i will only call once a week as to try to keep my mind off of it. My SO has an asian name too so i do hope your analogy is wrong about that. I wonder too because most of the petitions filed are for asians and Stan and Amy seemed to fly through but im not sure if her last name is asian.

I guess I should have been clearer. I wasn't talking about Asian names in general, but rather names whose native alphabet is non-Roman.

To take an example, let's imagine Kim Jong-il were trying to get a visa. His name in Korean is written 김정일. We most commonly see it Romanized as Kim Jong-il, but it can also be written Gim Jeong-il, Kim Jeong-il, Kim Jung-il, etc. The State Department runs name checks on most, if not all, of those possible spellings. USCIS only checks the name as written on the I-129F and/or G-325A.

yeah i get what your saying now. But the way they seem operate with no logic, they would probibly not even run Kim Jong-ils' name and let him sail right through <_<
