Hey guys, I'm getting frustrated as most of you are and decided to follow the lead of Sir Richard in sending a letter to my congressman. I was thinking of sending it on tuesday so let me know what you think about when to send and your comments on the letter thanks, mari joe

Dear Senator,

I have a particular concern in which I need your help. I filed an I-129f (petition for fiancée visa) with USCIS on March 25, 2009. I have called them and gotten conflicting responses as to the status of my petition. One representative tells me I am outside the processing times and they are working on my case, then referred me to an officer who tells me I am within the processing times and they are not working on my case. I have signed up for case status online and there has been no activity since March, stating my case as received and pending and the USCIS website indicates that processing times are below five months, which I am clearly beyond. I greatly appreciate your efforts to help in obtaining a service request to initiate action on my case and I hereby give you permission to look into my concern.

Sincerely,

I would add your EAC# and also download the actual form from his/her website that authorizes him/her to look into this...just in case. I would hate form the to take a week to write you back and then have to fill out the form and send it back. I would also add that according to the USCIS's very own website the time table is now 5 months.. since it is relatively new and if his/her immigration specialist is not real busy they may still think it is 6 month.

Other than that... I think it is fine

When I wake up... I really shouldnt post for at least 10 minutes :) I see you did state the 5 month thingie :D

i personally sent mine regular mail because I had already spoken to the immigration specialist and they are in the same post office as I am so it would get there the next day. I believe, but you might even call.. you can fax it to them and speed it up a little more

Ok. I have seen different theories as to which is better, congressman or senator and i am still dismayed. one advocates that senator has more pull while another said congressmen are more personal with their constituants. I guess we will see as we report our progress. I truely hope we both get approved in the next week. Good luck and God speed.

There's merit to both of those theories, plus a ton of other factors that could come into play—the congressman's or senator's seniority, his committee memberships... probably most important is how experienced his immigration caseworker is and what contacts he/she has inside of USCIS. My congressman's caseworker, for instance, was very kind and understanding but didn't strike me as all that effective. All her contacts were through USCIS's central POC for congressional inquiries (kind of like NCSC for Congress) and, consequently, all she ever heard back from them was USCIS boilerplate. On the other hand, I've read of other congressmen/senators who have personal contacts within the service centers that they've built up over the course of years. I would imagine that this sort of contact would be far more effective.

Anyway, good luck! Keep us posted!

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Makes me wonder if it would be better to contact both senators and the congressman for my location.

I would advise against this.

First of all, many congressmen and senators have an explicit "Congressional courtesy" policy of refusing to get involved in a case that another legislator is already working on.

Second, multiple inquiries from different congressional/senatorial offices could actually slow down your case. They have to chase down each inquiry separately, so if the first inquiry gets your file taken off the shelf and onto an adjudicator's desk, second and third inquiries will just slow down the adjudicator.
