Hi, guys!

I have a question about documents I need to bring to the interview. Since I was out of the country for 2 months since my biomentrics, I was not employed during that time. I came back three weeks ago, and I just found a job (which does not pay very well and will probably be temporary but I cannot be picky right now). Anyways, my question is whether I need to bring anything to the interview about that job, and if I do, what it should be. Thanks for your advice!

You will have to update the employment information (Part 6B) on your N-400 during the interview. Bring something that has the new employer name, address, employment dates etc for the IO.

Thank you, YuAndDan. I realize it's not an official requirement, but since I haven't worked for the last year (because of trips outside of the country), I thought I might bring something of my current employment. Do you think it is not necessary?

Thank you, brewerFan! What do you think that should be- an affidavit from the employer, or just a piece of paper with their information?

Oh, and sorry for the timeline- I hope this works. :innocent:

A letter from your employer signed by HR should suffice. See http://forums.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=288288 for a more comprehensive list of what to take to your interview.

There is no HR - it is a small place and that's why I need to tell them what to include in the letter: the date I started, hours I work weekly, how much they pay me,?? I have no idea ...

The N-400 form requests the employer name, address, start-date, end-date and occupation. I would say the letter should have at least this information.

I don't know if you are applying under the "3 year" or "5 year" (for want of a better terminology). But, if you are applying "5 year" you are probably not planning on taking tax returns/tax transcripts since they are not required. However, based on my experience, and considering your new & recent employment I would suggest taking them for the last few years (you probably have time to get tax transcripts, if not, just take a copy of your return). The other posters are correct that employment is not required for citizenship, but................ I work in the film industry and my employment is very sporadic - I wasn't able to supply a list of employers (heck, a lot of my employment is only one or two days at a time) - however I did prove a list of the major ones. The IO asked to see copies of my tax return, to "see you have been paying taxes". I didn't have them, and it was going to cause delays - later in the interview, the IO decided they weren't needed after all?? I I believe she mistakenly thought I was applying under the three year marriage, and wouldn't admit she made an error, but, I can't be sure, and after she approved me, I wasn't going to argue LOL. Simply based on my experience, I would say it wouldn't hurt to carry a few extra papers, just in case.

Good Luck with your interview.

I don't think employment is compulsory for the interview. They want to know we pay taxes and nothing own to IRS. Most of the N-400 applicants are house wifes, what they will do if immigration want them to prove they are working?

Lappa, IMO your statement is inaccurate & ignorant - on what facts do you base it?

Thanks, guys! I really appreciate your advice! I am applying under the "3-year exception". I got the transcripts in case they request them (just mine since we filed "married filing separately" for the last three years). I, then, might get a letter from my new place of employment saying a few basic things just in case. Their requirements vary (to say the least) from case to case so who knows....

Thanks again!
