One of my gfs is going to Gatlinburg with her fiance, sister, brother in law and nephew this summer. They're renting a house for a week or so. It sounds really fun. I've been to Nashville and loved it. It is quite a trek though.

OT but has anyone gone to Canada with their husbands post GC? How did that go? I mean at the border. We're thinking about getting to Niagara Falls sometime this summer if all goes well.

Throwing out another suggestion. There are alot of places in the Smokey Mountains where you can rent a house OR find hotels. I've been to Gatlinburg which is in Tennessee. That is kind of a lengthy drive for us though. AND, I would venture to say that's about as "non-MENA" as you can get!!!!

I love Gatlinburg and Pigen Forge, but more so during the holidays. There are tons of things to do and places to stay and not too pricey.

If anyone likes the outdoors, &/or camping type things, my family always goes to Deep Creek/Bryson City and Cherokee NC every year.

LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE the Smoky's!!! It's about a 6.5 hour drive for me but I'd be willing to do it! They have some really cool things to do there. Can you see our MENA husband's at the Dixie Stampede? Yeeeeeeeehawwwwwwwww, I'd love it! Let me know and I'll try to make plans on whatever we do.

Hubby always tells me to not take the drama of VJ home into our marriage. Other than that he doesn't say much.

Turia, you're not missing anything by not visiting Dearborn. I mean yeah there are loads of Arabic shops, markets, businesses and restaurants (great ones) but other than that there's nothing special. It's mostly Arab stuff...Lebanese, Yemeni, Jordanian, Iraqi, Palestinian and Syrian. Hardly anything North African related. Almost zero Moroccans, Tunisians or Algerians and very few Egyptians. My husband has a love/hate for Dearborn. He likes that he can get Mid Eastern food and stuff there but doesn't care much for the ppl who populate and work in the city. He doesn't trust/like most Arabs, basically.

That's basically why mine doesn't like this forum (drama). He really can't believe some of the stories and how some of the members are able to get rooked so badly. It absolutely blows his mind that women get used and then go for another round.

SOOOOO....

It sounds like the Gatlinburg area might be doable for many and would give the option of people to bring spouses or not and kids or not.

I will google some stuff and see what I can find. (I feel like Tula....you know Big Fat Greek Wedding chick who became the travel agent sort of  ) I'll post a few different things.

Here is a house with 7 bedrooms and full amenities. Say if we booked something like this for Friday and Saturday night (I'm assuming most of us would be doing this as a long weekend) the cost would be $70.72 + tax per night. Since something like this has a full kitchen, we could also save money by cooking.

Mountain Chalet

I'm not opposed to DC. The hotels get a little more expensive, of course, the closer into the city. There is the zoo and of course the Smithsonian museums.

Knowing Hicham, he would prefer the mountains though.

I do think Gatlinburg would be cooler (temp wise) than DC though...just say'in. :)

I probably won't make this round because of school and moving to Egypt and graduation coming but it sounds like a lot of fun. I have an Uncle in Atlanta and a few friends there on VJ and off VJ I'd like to meet that are MENA related. Waleed's Sister and her family are going to be in Baltimore July 09'-July 10' so I'm willing to go to D.C. area too in the future. Plus the NYC and Boston girls can come down. w00t! And I would bring my Husband along. We both always wanted to do road trips! Oh I'm also down for Vegas for sure and the whole spa thing! My Mom's a travel agent and goes to Vegas once or twice a year every year for the past 30 years or something so I can ask her more about that when the time comes. It will be interesting to see the Dixie pix if you are all going to do that. :P
