In his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last week, hate radio talker Rush Limbaugh repeated his assertion that he hopes President Obama "fails." In the same speech, Limbaugh took a veiled shot at former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is one of his rivals for the leadership of the conservative movement, saying that people who say the GOP needs to move on from Ronald Reagan must be stamped out.

On NBC'S Meet The Press today, Gingrich fired back, saying that "you've got to want the president to succeed." "You're irrational if you don't want the president to succeed because if he doesn't succeed, the country doesn't succeed," said Gingrich.

Asked by host David Gregory if that clashed with the views of people like Limbaugh, Gingrich warned against calling for Obama's failure:

GREGORY: Do you think that Republicans are discordant on that point, about whether they want him to fail or succeed?

GINGRICH:
I don't think anyone should want the president of the United States to fail
. I want some of his policies to be stopped, but I don't want the president of the United States to fail. I want him to learn new policies.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

"hate radio talker" :jest:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Apparently, during his speech Limbaugh launched into a rhetoric on the origins of the word community, as in community organizer. For some rather bizarre reason, best known to himself, he decided to 'invent' a new root for the word. So, according to the ebullient Limbaugh, community is derived from the word commune, and of course we all know where that leads

I wish I had heard that bit, I'd have laughed myself silly.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I think it's obvious Rush doesn't want the country to fail. He simply believes that Obama's policies will be harmful to America, and wants those policies to fail. He doesn't connect the success of what he believes to be bad policies with the success of America. I think Gingrich is playing word games. In the quote above, though he says he doesn't want the President to fail, he wants some of his polices stopped and replaced with new ones; he doesn't believe Obama's policies are good for America, either.

It is meaningless to say you want the President to "succeed" until you answer the question: "succeed at what?"

Btw, agree with him or not, like him or not, I think one loses credibilty by calling Rush a "hate radio talker."

TBH - I think Rush kinda deserves this kind of attack as its not dissimilar to the tactics he himself employs. Bit of poetic justice there of course.

Ultimately of course its pretty useless - and does little than provide a distraction from the "real issues".

Generally I think we'd all be better off without talking heads like Rush, and ####### for tat politicians like Gingrich drawing attention to him.

I think there are those that support Rush, but i don't think he has the support of the majority of the party. Running a campaign of interference instead of cooperation could backfire during the next election cycle.

He is saying what they are thinking. They benefit because he gets the thought out there to the base and they get to claim innocence.

And Rush is credible?

Rudh is a douche bag and a traitor to his country. He should be executed by firing squad.

He's unimportant yet not negligible. Forward-thinking Republicans should seriously consider just b!tchslapping him around a bit.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
