This is not necessarily a consulate problem but aledgedly one with the assistance of the Chines Customs Service.... It is a well known fact that it takes a minimum of about 3 mos. to get to the consulate.

it is also generally accepted that guz is the busiest consulate in the world, processing applications of all types, so get in line. it took 16 months for my wife to get visa, largely because of USCIS screw ups. then they issued her green card with taiwan as place of birth, and we returned that 7 months ago...

luckily, i was working in china when we were in process, and am in the states now.

Actually, GUZ contracts out their call center to a private company in Shanghai. She didn't talk to a US Government employee at all. GUZ is always about three months behind in accepting petitions shipments for processing. When they do accept the packages, they tend to be logged-in and P3's sent on Saturdays.

thank you guys for telling the truth about really how a K1 application gets handled because you never get the truth of it from the USA Government.

so I understand that NVC can't send K1 applications direct to USA Embassy they go to the Chinese customs first and they take 90 days to read it first.

Then if I want to call the Embassy to ask about my case I go to the bank pay them to let me call the embassy first then they give me a number to call a business in Shanghai.

So the embassy gets my $1.65 per minute and I get to talk to someone in Shanghai that don't know anything about my case.

I sure hope you don't tell me next that our papers really get processed in INDIA.

but serouslly what do the people at the embassy do besides take your money and give you the run around?

They have jobs to do and they do them. Their job does not include fielding calls from petitioners or beneficiaries. If you want to know the status of your case, call the DOS Visa information line in DC. They have the up to the minute status. Further, don't blame Chinese customs for the delay. The Consulate doesn't provide the documents needed to receive the shipments until they are ready to process what's in the packages. In the meantime, they use DHL's customs clearance warehouse for storage.

Adding on the Mike's comments: I was told to imagine a shipping pallet 5-6 feet high; there are several of those that come in each week. These are the various applications, etc... for the consulate staff to work. So yes, there's a backlog. I don't know about the head-man's time, but the rest of the staff really does work long hours.

I know it's frustrating.

I had also heard that the call center was a waste of money. Others can feel free to correct me.

Good Luck!
