Reba, thanks for the recipe, which looks like the real deal: serious butter and sugar. There have been many successful food businesses that did one thing, but did it extremely well. A butter tart kiosk in every mall would make us millions. Hey, it's something to do while waiting for the visa!

I head to Saskatoon in 13 for a 2 week stay!! Only thing I miss food wise is Tim Hortons coffee, and the can stuff one brings back, just doesnt taste the same!! I usually stop in at the airport and try to find me a nice Canada Coffee mug!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My mom used to own a catering company, her buttertarts were famous around here. People would drive for miles to get them. She is the pastry queen! I am going to miss her baking!

I need to keep a list of stuff for her to ship us...maybe for Christmas ;)

I checked that link but I don't need a case of chocolate bars...1 or 2 would be good.

I always take a big bag of bulk Callebaut bittersweet chocolate for baking. It's really high quality and melts perfectly. I haven't found anything like it in the US. :star:

OMG I am SO Jonesing for some Creton! Anything like it here? I tried scrapple, and a few assorted other look alikes. Yuck.

Am I missing something, no one mentioned the infamous sucre a la creme?

Tim's moca java is a must on every visit :) And the BREAD !

Bread here in the US sucks, it don't toast right. The only one that is close is

Thomas' english muffin bread slices.

Anyway, I miss my creton and BECEL margarine / olive oil margarine.

Every visit before we come back we stock up on Cheese Whiz, Salada Tea (our US tea is so weak),

Creton, Loaves of bread, EXCEL CERISE buy the case load, and more :)

NOW I'm drooling, bring on the all dressed chips!

Meh

what's Creton?

oh someting you sprinkle on a salad- thats my guess.. like croutons but more of the

Creton variety..

Meh

let me get this straight....

you DONT like american BREAD? but you like CHEEZE WIZ...:lol::lol::lol::lol:

you got it backwards dear.. Cheeze Wiz is not real cheeze

I brought the HUGE a$$ jar of cheese whiz, (all I can find here are dinky little jars) bicks pickles (wayyy crispier than vlassic) robin hood nanaimo bar mix (although if you google the recipe you can make them from scratch), vim cleaner (the blueish liquid ocean fresh kind, it just smells like clean should smell), shreddies, coffee crisp, smarties, crispy crunch, all dressed up ships, and a couple large tins of tims coffee.

O and only bring one copy of your AP. I handed them both copies and they gave me ######, told me that I should leave one behind in case I lose one and i can have someone fed-ex it to me in canada. It took about an hour to process me at the border....the border guy actually told me that if I would cross over late at nght its better because there are less lines ofpeople needing processing. WHen I cross with my son next month (he is activating his visa for the first time) I am crossing after nmidnight, cooler to travel, less traffic and less people at the border.

people its easy to get Cheeze wiz here.

people its easy to get Cheeze wiz here.

Yes, but in tiny little very expensive jars, the cheeze whiz we get in Canada is humungous for close to the same price as the little ones here. actually all dairy products there seem to be larger and less expensive. i cant even find the huge long bricks of cheese that are almost a foot long that i used to buy back home all the time.

But i did google vachon and they have a us division, well a website with pictures that made me drool but no info how or where to get them :(

Im bringing my son here finally next week, so I will be loading up with groceries :)

Last time thru they asked if I had anything I was bringing back, i said ya, a HUGEA$$ jar of cheeze whiz...the girl in the booth cracked up laughing :)
