Can I list things I've put on consignment as income on my tax returns? Will that help me with the I-134(K1 Visa)?

I have too many things. I've been putting them on consignment and I get pretty decent money from it. Is it possible that could help me out with the I-134?

What about if I made jewelry and sold it to different stores on consignment?

Thanks for your help!

Your post mentions tax returns, you question mentions the I-134. Different things. I suppose you could put them on your income tax returns and list them as other income or even self employed income, pay the 15% self employment tax which has no deductions, write offs etc. Flatly 15% off the top. The government will not refuse the extra tax you pay. When you get to your interview and present you last years 1040 it will not matter as they will use your CURRENT income. If your CURRENT income is adequate, the tax return is irrelevent.

Now if you meant "Can I count it as CURRENT income on my I-134" I would say no. You could always try but I sure would not be comfortable if it was making the difference between acceptance or not.

Jen,

Selling your belongings won't help because it is not a sustainable or easily verifiable income. It could go to the assets part of the i-134 and i-864. But as you know that is a 3-1 ratio.

Have you been able to find any higher wage employment? Given the current economic situation it may be difficult to actually do.

Is there no one in Jen's family that will be a co-sponsor? We know that your parents aren't an option. It seems to be the only thing that will allow you to get past the income requirement.

Don't give up. But don't spend a lot of time trying to dream up extreme solutions.

There are people that make their income from consignment type sales. But having it on consignment is not when it becomes income it is after the sale of the item. The income would then be the amount you get minus your expenses.

I haven't found anything yet. There's no one in my family that I could go to where it wouldn't get back to my parents.

I'm definitely not going to give up and it's not my intention to dream up extreme solutions. I'm just trying to think outside of the box. People might think the easiest solution would be to go to my parents. In my case, it's not. Probably, one reason they think the idea of us getting married is an illusion is because I am so dependent on them for everything. So I'm trying to think of ways I can meet the requirements myself, without their help.

I could learn how to do simple jewelry repairs and get contracted for that.

I could be on call for the Sherriff's department in the event they need a translator and be freelance in that way.

What makes this so difficult is that every one of my epiphanies includes a set of derailed trains that come along with it. I had the brilliant idea of "simply" working 11 hours at my part time job instead of 6. 1) I'm lucky they are even keeping me there as it is.. it's so slow they've been having to cut down the hours of their full time employees-- even the cooks!!! 2) My full time job schedule just keeps getting crazier- it can't be that way if I'm going to be working at least 51 hours every week. 3) I don't want my full time job to think I'll be less hard of a worker or somehow incompatant at that job because I'll be working more hours somewhere else. 4) I don't want to spread myself too thin and end up getting fired from all my jobs because then I'll be back at square 1.. well, 0... trying to find a job.

Income is income. If you manufacture jewelry, the money you receive from sales is "revenue". Revenue minus manufacturing and other business expenses is "income". Any "income" is income. You may not count the value of the product as either income or revenue until it is sold and you receive the proceeds of the sale. So, if you put items in for sale on consignment with price tags totalling $5,000 that cost you $500 to manufacture and $3,000 worth of product sells, you would have $2,500 in "income". If nothing sells, you have no income. If $500 sells, you have no income.
