you got to go to Su Tu Phap where you got your marriage certificate. It's called a Ly lich Tu Phap and all it does is say that your wife has anything on the police records. It usually take 3 weeks to get it and I can't remember but I think it's like 100,000 Dong.

Dai was right. It usually take up 3-4 weeks, and it only costs 100,000 dong. Depend on where your wife live? She has to pick up from there. Here's a link will help you more to prepare for NVC.

good luck.

I just went through this with my fiancee. She thought she could go and get a "police certificate" from the local Cong An in her village. Why not, it is called a "police" certificate, right? Wrong. What they gave her was a form that basically said she was a good girl all while growing up. This is not what the US Government is looking for.

You have to go to the place where you would get a marriage certificate or something similar. Typically at the Province level if she lives outside TP HCMC. Also, must be from the Province where she is listed in Ho Khao. And it needs to say LY LICH TU PHAP at the top.

For anyone whose spouse or fiancee lives in Vinh Long Province, it recently only took 10 days to get it.

The place where you can get it is called CONG AN TINH~, not CONG AN PHUONG`

that place is actually called SO TU PHAP, thats where you need to go to get it

I am not Vietnamese so I would have called it Cong An Tinh (Provincial Police). But Vietnamese is Hien's department so I leave the language to her!!

It's in Vietnamese, therefore you need to translate it to English, and also notary it.

The police certificate has to be issued from Department of Justice(So tu Phap) from the City or Province that your fiancee is living and registered for Household registry book(Ho Khau) You should not get from the local police, the Consulate might not accept that. And it is good for 6 months only. If your fianceee is not living in HCMC, then she should try to apply for it the soonest, becasue the Department of Justice in other City is always give us a lots of hard time.....

Good luck.
