Should I go visit a doctor?

I have been contemplating of going to a doctor or is it natural cause. I know its kind of silly to ask this on message board, but just wanting to know if others have felt the same with severe climate change or not.

I never had breathing problem before coming to US. At first when I came here back in last week of November, I couldn't sleep for the first week at all because I would wake up with dry throat, absolutely dry, I never experienced something like that in my life. My breaths were real heavy for the first couple of weeks.

Sleeping is all right now, but there are times when I struggle for breathing. I am not sure if its the cold weather (not cold right now, but been that way for the past 3 months) or is there something wrong with me.

I am just trying to understand from people who came from tropical weather to high altitude cold weather. Did they feel the same? Back in India my home had stairs and I would climb up and down 100 times a day without trying to catch my breath ever, but out here I climb the stair once and I am dying to fill my lung with air.

99% of me think it has to do with weather change and also altitude, I have always lived at sea level but its different here, much higher altitude. Just that my mom had died of lung cancer and I have that small fear that it might have something to do with genes.

Thanks for any help with this silly question.

Before you goto the Doctor, if you're experiencing dry throat in the morning, did you by any chance have your mouth open while you were alseep? Also, if you had your mouth open, is your window open?

If so, then shut the window, and try not to sleep with your mouth open.

I am not experiencing anymore of the dry throat problem. But no, I never sleep with mouth open, plus we always kept the windows closed because of cold wind.

The problem right now is that I can't run even 100m without trying to catch my breath.

It's possible you have asthma. You can have asthma without wheezing, contrary to popular opinion. It could be caused by new allergies you have acquired since moving. Usually when I have trouble with my asthma, it is brought on by allergies. I feel like I can't get enough air and I can't take a deep breath.

Definitely check with a doctor to be sure, but I'd bet it's due to the dramatic climate/environment change. Even people who move between different climates within the US experience some health issues for a time. Hopefully your body will adapt after a while.

If you have a 24 hour pharmacy, you can check with your pharmacist and pick up an over the counter allergy medication like Claritin or Zyrtec and see if it helps. If not, then you'll have to see a doctor and be evaluated for asthma.

Everybody reacts differently to changes in climate and altitude. Altitude can kick even the fittest azz while someone completely out of shape may be fine. Try the allergy meds to see if it helps but otherwise consult your doctor.

You should go to see an Allergist /Pulmonologist.... do not go see a General doctor, I started somehow with the same symptoms and I went to see a several general doctors all of them told me that I probably had allergies, bronchitis, cold, flu... they never gave a straight diagnosis.... as well as they never bother to do a Pulmonary test, or take a sample of phelm or mucus to see what kind of bacterias were causing my symptoms ... You are probably developing Asthma or Allergies..

Try a humidifier and air purifier in your house. No one should have to suffer for a couple of months like that while adapting to a new environment.
