Does any one know how long it take to get your criminal record in the UK? Has any one onh ere from London requested one and how long does it take? Also I heard that things go off your record in the UK after 10 years. If my husband had any minor offenses when he was younger in his teens, how will this affect it? Is it possible for any of that to still be on the police record?

Loads of people on VJ have ordered UK police certs. It costs 10 quid and takes about 40 days to receive it. It's valid for one year.

Soooo....if you think there may be something on the report order it now. Even so called 'spent crimes' can show up. Better to see what's on there - you might be pleasantly surprised if all the youthful offenses have dropped off. If they haven't you have a wealth of info here in the waiver forums to help you prepare for the next step.

Mine took almost the entire 40 days and from anecdotal evidence on here that's average. Get it sooner rather than later cos the UK one is valid for one year - I got mine in Sept '05, and my interview actually didn't happen til June '06  On the plus side tho it meant I didn't have to wait 40 days to send back packet 3 :)

We are parents going through our daughter and as such required police certs for both of us and they came within the 40 days. We got ours early also just to make sure

My hubby had a few offences from when he was a minor (he is 52 now) and they are still on his police records so it not necessarily always the case that offences are wiped clean after a period of time

Another thing to be considered is if there are any offences your partner will also have to acquire the "Memorandums of Conviction" from the courts where any offences were tried and they cost £8.00 for each offence
