An educated guess? Give me a break. No, I cannot disprove yoru assumption, and neither are you able to prove it, so it is moot. Do I attack everyone who makes broad assumptions? No, but when I take it as a backhanded insult, yes I will.

Yes, an educated guess. Once a week I teach a class at a local university. I've asked student about the original meaning or origin of certain internet terms, and these bright and worldly youth typically do not have a clue....they just heard someone else say it. I can ask them about "fail" next week, and prove my assumption.

So you feel that my giving some anonymous group (that you don't believe exists) a so called "backhanded" insult, makes it OK for you to make judgement on me, and to make personal attacks?

I took your comment as a passive aggressive insult. I do frequently use internet terms (usually in an exaggerated manner), and thought it was directed at me as a member of a group who as you stated were ignorant of the meaning of the word. I made a comment that you were being grouchy about it (something to do with a g-string on backwards ). You know, Hammurabi's code applies on the internet

I will defer to your experience with asking educated college kids directly if they know the roots of internet slang. But they are kids, and I tend to think people on this forum are older than that and have a bit more experience with it. Yes, I spend too much time on a computer and know the terms and where they come from. It's the side effect of growing up in a Nintentdo Generation.

I don't have a passive bone in my body bucko. If I want to insult someone, I'll do it, and I don't have a problem doing it to their face.

Your logic still makes no sense at all. If you knew the origin, then you shouldn't feel insulted. If you think backhanded or passive aggressive insults are a bad thing,

then why do you feel you are above the law to run to the Canadian forum and post insults and attacks about me in a place where you thought I would never see them?

Again, this logic makes no sense. If you didn't understand my comment, or you though I was referring to you, the adult thing to do would be to ask me.

The manly thing to do would be to confront me in public, and air your concern. I think what you did was low, and unwarranted. I'd use stronger words, but I'm trying not to sink to your level of name calling again.

None the less, it was a perceived insult. You were vague enough in your phrasing that it was easily construed. I didn't come hide in the Canada forum, nor do I care if you read it or not. I didn't think my disdain warranted an entire thread, nor did it belong in the OT. I'm not even the first one to complain about you in this forum. I think your initial post that most people who use it don't know the meaning of it and the inference that they are stupid was low and unwarranted.

You obviously inferred wrong. I never said people who use it and don't know the meaning of it are stupid. However, I do believe that we have some shortcomings in the job pool of tomorrow. Again, here I speak from a point of reference and experience. Other countries focus on education. Some students attend school 6 days a week, some all year. For most other countries, speaking a second language (and not slang) is a requirement, not an option.

I don't mind that you inferred incorrectly, or that you questioned my intent. I'm glad that you were finally able to step-up and state your opinion in a civilized manner, so that we could clear this up. But again, name calling...especially in a regional forum that I wasn't a part of, is underhanded, low and unwarranted. You can keep coming up with excuses why you did it, but I don't think you can debate that it was not the best way forward.

That is ridiculous E ..... hopefully you will find a better apartment for less money!

Thanks Autumn.. we did find a good place today for under 1K here in our town with heat included  It sounds too good to be true.. but we'll see on Sat. in person! What's your perceived value for a place in our town in CT? You'd know more about it than I most certainly!

Honestly, I haven't lived in CT since I was 17, but I have paid attention to what friends who live there tell me about rents. That deal sounds unbelievable!!! Hopefully it is in a decent neighborhood. I would expect a decent place in a good neighborhood to be around 900 - 1400 for a 2 bedroom.... depending on the amenities (i.e., fancy shmancy apartment complex, etc.).

We're considering moving back to CT (as well as looking at options in other states). Honestly, the rent prices scare me!!! I was in Georgia for 6 years and my mortgage was about $600, then I moved to NH and our mortgage here is over a thousand .... going to CT will be an even higher cost of living.

I am absolutely sickened and disgusted to read the turn this thread took. I feel absolutely violated, as I'm sure most of us do. I hope to never witness such despicable behaviour in this forum ever again. I am angered that those who feel they were justified in their actions and participation, whether behind the scenes or right out in plain view, will carry around a sense of righteousnous for their part in this fiasco. I will always read your words through a different lense from this point in time.

And for the record.... Off Topic IS moderated on an entirely different level than the other forums. That is why you will see zero tolerance for this childish drivel in forums such as "Major Changes". Unbelievable.

GAWR! I hate Vista! I downloaded a new font to use on our wedding invites and its sitting there in a zip file, but every time I try to add it to the fonts folder it says I need administrative authority. I'm the administrator! This is my computer! The help things say to turn off user account controls and It will work. I turned them off, restarted the computer and it still won't work. What the heck! :diablo:

Well... you're going to have to unpack the font first, and then move the font to the Fonts folder. If you can't "unpack" the zip file, lemme know. :)

I haven't been online in a couple of days and am totally shocked by all of this. All I can say is, there really is a big ol' jungle out there... wow.

Oh I finally got it! I had to download Winzip because apparently I didn't have it, then I had to change my user account settings, then I had to save the file as a document, then I had to open the font folder and then install the new font into the folder. Quite confusing! I'm computer illiterate. Bill actually called me and walked me through each step  All because I don't want to pay a calligrapher.

oh, I was venting the other day that there is this group of 18 year olds or maybe older that hang out every night in the front of our building.. one of the kids lives next door .. all they do is sit around swearing and talking loudly and sometimes playing music.. they usually shut down by about 10:30 or so but it is still very annoying.... I thought I was getting a break from it tonight but they showed up, just little later then usual :P

(our apartment building is kind of set up like a town homes where every place has it's own entrance and there is a small grassed area in the front)
