I'm a little grumpy this morning, if some of you recall we wanted to get a pup and couldn't, the condo board was going to vote on it. This morning our landlord e-mailed us back:

"Hi Jill & Glen, Unfortunately I couldn't get the dog rule modified for me to allow a dog in each unit. In fact they are tightening up on the dog rules. You will probably see letters from management over the next few months. "

I just think it's effing ridic that we can't get a little 10 pound dog. WHAT is he going to do. WHY is one allowed per duplex and not two. What kind of people are on this board that make these bloody rules that don't make sense. And WHY are they making the rules even tighter, this place sucks. I want to move when our lease is up in November because I don't want our lives to be governed by these people. It's not just the dog thing, it's the principle.

Too true! Can't let these people dictate what you are going to do - definately requires a move in November!!

This is another reason while we will not even consider buying a house where they have a home owners association.

Say no to HOA!!

Good luck with that. From what I've seen, most neighborhoods have a HOA. The general idea is to keep people from doing really stupid things which could devalue the area or just become a general eyesore/annoyance. For instance, a HOA keeps people from painting their house bright neon green and stationing flamingos on their front lawn. Maybe someone might want that, but it makes the entire neighborhood look terrible.

Thanks! It's not just an idea with us, we are not even looking at houses with a HOA.

Perhaps there is a bit of a trade off - the guy down the street gets his neon flamingos - but I don't have anyone telling me whether I can paint my door green either.

I despise the more strict HOA's. I had a friend who bought a home and had a very strict HOA. There was a list of 5 colors you were allowed to paint your home and there were a set of penalties outlined in the agreement for various offenses. My friend got fined $100 for parking his car on his lawn to wash his car.....

Very much agree with you here tmixy. You're the one buying a home, you should be the one who decides what you get to do with that home, not someone else.

Yeah it really sucks. Right now I'm worried the HOA is going to come after me because I let my doggies pee-pee on my yard. Well, it's not my yard technically it's THEIR'S (even though I own the home....silly..)

Any way, now there are all kinds of spots where the grass has died from my dogs going to the bathroom. But it's hard to walk them to go pee when they have to go SO bad most of the time by the time I get home from work and the like. I'm not going to walk half a mile to take them somewhere else at 5am in the dark either.

The whole idea of HOA kinda peeves me off. So much control.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I started going grey in my early 20's - colouring your hair is no fun. Hopefully it was just a - one off thing - and you won't have to colour your hair until you're 70

It was pure white, not even grey.... my Grandma on Mom's side didn't ever turn grey, it was wierd. She died at age 80 with a full head of raven hair. I hope to take after her!

1 reason why they limit the # of animals is that many owners don't pick up after their animals -----don't bother to pick up the pooh!! Weird that they dont allow at least 1 per unit though. We wil be renting our condo soon, and we won't allow any pets, event though we have 2 cats and a dog,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It sucks when my son comes home with dog poop on his shoes or on his pants.. yep he slid through the stuff one time while playing foot ball outside. So disgusting. Those jeans went right into the trash.

You can get evicted from my neighborhood if you're caught not picking up after your pet. I think its disgusting that people would actually just leave it there and not care.

I think the idea is that it's not just your house. True, you own it; however, what you do can (and often does) have an impact on the neighborhood itself, thereby affecting other home owners. What if you wanted to sell your home? How many potential buyers would really want to live next to a house that looks like a cross between a casino and a brothel? Property value can mean a lot.

Honestly, I don't see what's so bad about an HOA. I grew up with one and overall, it seemed very reasonable. That HOA rarely enforced strict policies, but they did have rules. Every HOA can differ, so maybe some here dealt with some really bad ones.

I don't think anyone should dictate what someone else does with their property, I see what your saying but I think its ridiculous that after you throw so much money into something and you have someone standing there telling you what you can and cannot do.

I don't like neighborhoods that remind me of the stepford wives.

Out where we are looking to buy a house in MD,may of the neighborhoods are HOA,was really surprised about that. We would prefer not to reside in a HOA! There are good/bad points of them, and if people are reasonable, they have the opportunity to be really good, but we all know that not everyone is reasonable. But I must admit the nicer maintained neighborhoods are usually HOA (yes, not in all areas, lol)

I dont want to fork over big $$$$$ and then have some idiot park his 10 cars on his lawn either, lol
