Baseball vent:

Should have kept Lidge off the plate. I had hope until I saw him pitching last night.

They should only let Lidge pitch when we're comfortably ahead and in the last inning.... and even then it's a gamble.

Oh and Lee is back tonight but that doesn't matter, Phils have to win every single game from now on out and that won't happen. So congratulations NY.... your steroid pumping crazy rich team won.

I'm gonna go back to loving the Cubs because at least then I know what I am in for every year. Compare it to being a leafs fan, you know its gonna suck but you keep going back anyways. :)

I was kinda hoping they would win it all. After they kicked the Rockies butt, I figured the only way it wouldn't be embarassing for us is to have Phillies prove they are the best team in the league... again.

I really HATE the Yankees. They ruin baseball.

The guidos are pumping fists right now.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Lol I'm just really excited that baseball will be over soon so maybe they'll have 4 or 5 minutes showing hockey, an actual sport you can't be fat to play, on Sportscenter haha.

I can not enjoy a sport where someone can be 6'7 and a jiggly 270 pounds and be considered one of the better players in the league (*cough* Sabathia *cough*). :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

I really HATE the Yankees. They ruin baseball.

How?

I'm not a fan of any team but as someone who has platyed just about every sport imaginable and was a competitive athelete for a good 15 to 18 years, how do the Yankees ruin baseball over another team?

Steroid use is parcel and product of ALL baseball teams now.

The Yankees have a large payroll, so do Manchester United. It's not their fault they have a large fan base and can acquire great players.

They do ruin baseball.

At least we know that they Phillies didn't make it to the world series because they were bought, they made it because they're tough.

Just not true Amanda. Sorry. It isn't a part of ALL baseball teams. A lot sure, but not all. :P

And I played baseball throughout most of my childhood. Hockey to you, is like baseball to me. I am insanely passionate about it.

They dont. I'm just angry and bitter :P

They use their readily available fianaces to suck in talented players from other teams. As a fan of a franchise with a moderate budget and limited resources it is very frusterating. The Yankees is one of those teams that you go up against and just feel like you are destined to failure before the game even begins. I wasn't really referring to steriod use, unfortunately it is a problem in every team.

As far as Manchester United goes, I really have no clue. I would compare the Yankees to Hendrick motorspots in NASCAR. They have the big money, the big sponsors, and they threaten to win each and every race. It gets old. You have a huge fanbase that loves you just because you win, and a huge fanbase that hates you just because you win. Same goes with the Yankees I supose. When one team performs so consistently good you don't really want to watch anymore... the results become predictable. The Yankees make me not want to watch, so I guess it ruins baseball for me.

I think it's funny A-Roid's salary is almost the same as the entire Philadelphia Flyers team.

You know you chose the wrong sport when...

Ugh I know. Its just ridiculous... And he's way overpayed for what he does, really. I think the MLB would really benefit from some type of NHL style salary cap. It would help the smaller teams that have the talent but are held back by their resources.

The NHL only had to implement a salary cap because of their lack of success. Salary caps do not create parity among teams.

Because of who's lack of success? The NHL's?

Salary caps don't care parity among teams, and I'm not taking about making all teams even, that would ruin the nature of the sport. I'm talking about preventing a team from holding a monopoly on talent because they can afford to sick billions of dollars into players salaries. Regardless of why it was implemented, in the NHL the salary cap has led to a different distribution of talented players among teams. It hasn't ruined the spot, it has enhanced it.

The yankees don't have a monopoly on talent. They simply have a better business model that generates money outside of baseball which in turn allows them to spend more money on scouting, management, and their whole front office team. If you have a salary cap, the yankees will still spend that on off the field personnel, thus perpetuating the inequity.

As to enhancing the sport, that is debatable. Players make less money, there is less t.v. coverage, and the sport as a whole is less profitable. There might be a few more teams that are legitimately competitive, but does anyone really think that neither Detroit or Pittsburgh are going to win?

Well to answer your last point first yes. I always think a team other than Detriot or Pittsburg is going to win because I'm optimistic! And the avs are hot right now! A girl can dream :P

The Yankees have more than a better business model. They also have a billionaire owner who throws green at the team like its candy and attracts young talents with the prospect they can earn more money here than anywhere in North America. The Yankees can spend all they want on off field personnel, you can stop that, we aren't talking about working miracles, were talking about doing something to make the sport more interesting and competative, which the salary cap has accomplished in the NHL. In my humble opinion...
