oy...I just read the one you were talking about, left him a reply as well...I have a feeling hes not going to like what we had to say, but I'd rather make sure she doesnt end up banned because of stupidity.

Is it just me, or are there so many rude know it alls on here lately? Everyone is an immigration attorney lol.... It's like 'TV Doctors' just because you watched Grey's Anatomy for the past 5 seasons, doesn't make you licensed to perform surgery lol.

So many people find themselves in a pickle...come on here and get 10 different pieces of advice...some people making it more complicated...and worse yet, the same people who ask questions, act like they know it all.

I hate when Canadians think they have 'added perks' with visitation and overstays....

I for one am glad my process was by the book and smooth..... there are a select group of people on here that give good advise...too many people try to play devils advocate, and look to start a 'know it all' match...

Don't people have lives outside of VJ

(FYI, this is in no way directed to most of my Canadians that have been on here for a long while now). I for one don't try to pass off information or arguments, when I know it's something I am unsure about...

Its not just you and in fact theres so many of them with similar stories that have all just come forth in the last like 2 weeks that it makes me wonder if its something in the water or if its a troll. It bugs me too because theres so many of us who read up on things and how to do things right but these people seem to think that they can just do as they like to get around the things in the immigration process that they don't like because it takes time.

thank god! I thought I was going mad yesterday with all the shenanigans going on. Like seriously, so many of them that I was beginning to wonder if i'd done something seriously wrong/missed out on a bunch of things or was just in the know as much as I thought I was despite my many long hours of research and reading this site.

Thanks for saying something... I am thusly slapped back into reality this and a few good PMs from some good folks out there.

Yeah, my wife and I learned the hard way when we initially filed for a K-1 last March, then got married before the K-1 was officially approved. We had only gone off of USCIS information and made the assumption that we could get married, then file for AOS upon approval of the visa after the fact. I feel very, very dumb about that now, after knowing what I know...but when you look at just the USCIS documentation, there's NOTHING there that states that you can't get married until you're approved...it just says that you have to get married within three months of approval (which, technically speaking, we did...just within three months BEFORE we were approved  ) So after a very stupid and costly mistake -- in terms of time, money and spouse-missing -- we endeavored to do a LOT of research on the correct process for spouses.

The information is all out there (most of it is on this site, no less), but what people don't realize is that they have to make a point about being proactive about looking for it. Researching it. Learning it. Understanding it. I'm still learning, and likely won't be anything resembling an expert even after my particular visa journey is over...but I learned the hard way, so have been vigilant in making sure that THIS leg of our visa journey is smooth sailing. If only others would do the same without making a similarly dumb initial mistake...

Why does it matter how they came in! One can sleep peacefully knowing you did it the legal way. One doesnt have to respond to their posts.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Then don't, if that is how you feel. My dear friend, I can and will do whatever I please - whether it is respond, come over and vent, report illicit activities or any suggestion of it. :)
