Wow okay! This is so interesting.

My MIL does it a lot, and people I work with. We speak the same language but there's some weird communication error that happens and for the past year I have felt that maybe something was really wrong with me. But I go back home and people know what I am saying.

I am just an office assistant it can't be that complicated... but sometimes the smallest thing becomes complicated and I hate it.

I think this is really interesting. Do Canadians in general speak faster or slower? Do we use x number of different words in a sentence so as to confuse zee Americans!

One thing I have noticed that a lot of people do - or rather don't do - they don't listen. They get so used to listening to a certain accent or way of speaking that if anything even slightly out of the ordinary comes up it stumps them.

Case in point, my Husband is Australian. When he is ordering at a drive through and they ask him what drink he wants he says 'Coke'. Now his accent at this point is almost non-existent. Plus, how many different drinks are there? Pepsi, 7-up, Sprite, Root Beer - do any of those sound even vaguely like Coke - umm no.

And yet this happens over and over again.

I hate apartment people, they get their money, and as long as I'm not destroying the place, why don't they leave me alone. This constructive eviction nonsense has to stop.

Agreed! I pay you the money each month, now leave me the hell alone!

If I could think of a way to break the lease without having it show up on my credit report - I would.

I don't think this is exclusive to just Americans. People are creatures of habit. They are used to hearing things in their own tongue. My Irish relatives always laugh at the way that we speak, and so I end up having to say things twice quite often, once for their entertainment, and once to clarify myself :P

When I was in 5th grade I had to go see a speech specialist to learn to speak slower.

No one could understand me except for my own mother.

I remember I had to do a 5 minute presentation for Science and my presentation was only 2 minutes long but I had all the content in there for a 5 minute presentation, I just blew through it too fast.

I am a very shy person  , so when I get speak no one can hear me. I have a bad habit of overcompensating by speaking loudly and quickly, kinda like a professional wrestler. Wait, that's not funny, that's true. :crying:

Ugh bad news. The bully that I reported and his trashy mom have moved out of their hotel room and are now living a few doors down with their old neighbor. So I guess until her section 8 comes through they'll be here. Lovely!

Yea she wasted her time telling another one of the neighborhood kids to tell Ethan, to tell me - yea what grade are we in here? That if my son goes near her son, she'll call the cops too.

#######.

I don't even care. I told Ethan to leave the neighborhood gossip at the door and we don't talk about it in this house.

Course I am coming here and venting about it but I am trying to pretend it doesn't bother me in the real world. :P
