Well, the plot thickens. I just had a call from my Mom's other friend - a very nice lady that I have met a few times and who my Mom really likes.

Indeed what I thought about this guy is true. She didn't really want to talk about it because she does not want to be and isn't one of the building gossipers (good reason to never move to a seniors complex).

She really just confirmed everything I was thinking about this guy. He thinks he is some kind of building 'hero' - he drives people around etc and they pay him. I forgot to mention, when he does this stuff for my Mom - she pays him.

He has a key for my Mom's apartment, I will be dropping by there on my way to see her today to get that key from him.

Oh, good grief! That would drive me bonkers! Maybe he could be persuaded to do some volunteer work so he can stick his nose into someone else's business.

:o

Sounds like you arrived home just in time.

I used to stay out all night having fun - get no sleep and then like go to an island the next day for fun and frivolity.

On the upside, when I do drink now, I don't get a hang over....it's quite strange, but good.

I never drink much . . . it only takes 2 drinks and I'm drunk. So I never got a hangover until I was in Canada this summer with my sweetie. . .

We spent the night at his uncle's house near Ottawa, and all through the night they kept pouring the wine and I kept drinking. I was so over-intoxicated that I made myself throw up before bed because I felt saturated with alcohol.

The next morning I got to experience my first hangover and it was the worst! I was so sick that when I was sitting outside breathing the fresh air and nibbling on some toast I had to run to the nearest place to throw up and all I could find was the grass in their yard! No one saw me but man talk about a first impression. "Sean's fiance, nice girl but she sure has a drinking problem, eh!"

Actually they apologized for filling my cup so many times and they were very cool people.

Hope you get that key trailmix! It may have been well and good for this guy to be around to help out your Mom when you were not living in Calgary, there is no reason now that he has to be so solicitous. My concern would be him driving anyone around if he has a drinking problem. As well, how much he gets paid. He has ingratiated himself to perhaps a few people and it might not be healthy. Glad you're checking into this.

I've seen quite a few cases at work with overzealous neighbors. Most of the ones that I have seen, the person is a man and more often than not, a widower. Some are cons, but usually, they just have nothing in their lives to occupy themselves. I think the tell tale will be what his reaction is when you recall the key to your mother's apartment from him. If his reaction is anything but gracious, I'd be a bit concerned. Nothing that rises to the level of criminal, but concerned none the less. I don't know about Calgary, but every police department that i've had interaction with here has specific divisions that deal with this sort of situation. Might be worth a call if he's having trouble detaching himself.

I didn't contact him yesterday, decided to just focus on my Mom - who is 100% better!

This guy has been my Mom's friend for quite a few years now. He was the boyfriend of one of the other residents. On the surface, if you were to meet him (which I have - before we went to Florida) - it would appear that he is a great guy.

I knew he drank, because my Mom had told me - however he hides away when he drinks apparently - or perhaps just from her considering she has zero tolerance for drunk men.

When I was speaking to my Mom's other friend yesterday and I told her that he had said "oh, you are in contact with her" - I could hear her shock on the other end of the line.

While I do not think that Mr. Idiot is in any way a threat to my Mom physically, I despise the fact that he thinks he has any say in where she should live or what she should do. My Mom has always said how bossy he is - but she does stand up for herself, so it hasn't really been an issue. However, I do think it's time that he backed off and minded his own business and he stepped way over the line the other day.

So today I will call him and ask my Husband to go over and pick up the key.

grr, so while we were away last week I set it up for the post office to hold our mail until Saturday and I selected the option that they deliver the held mail on Saturday.. well, Saturday came and went and no mail... and now Monday came and went and still no mail

and silly me can't check online because I forgot to write down the confirmation number....

and I can't go pick it up because I got hassled last time because the address on my DL is not our current address (although I have changed my address with the DMV) and they only let me pick up the mail because I had printed out the paper that had the confirmation number and our address on it...

That happened to me last week, Marilyn. I just called the local post office (after calling the 1-800 # that they tell you to call and having them tell me to call the local post office icon2.gif). She went back and took a look at my carrier's area and said yes, my mail was still there and, yes, I should have received it two days ago. She apologized profusely and said they could deliver it right away or I could come pick it up. I told her that the next day was fine.

WRT to the confirmation #..... I just take a screen shot of the confirmation page for my mail and my paper delivery and save it to my desktop in Word. That way I'm not fiddling with pieces of paper and I know where to find it. :)
