Uh oh, what's going on in Montreal? We were there in August for our honeymoon. Everyone spoke to us in English and I don't remember any signs being in French only. The only problem I had was at the Starbucks in the hotel (go figure) and the girl didn't seem to understand English. I think she was new though, because she didn't seem to know what she was doing and had to keep asking what I guess was her manager questions. I didn't get the coffee anyway, because it turned out their credit card thing was down and it was cash only.

Oh and here in Houston it's all in English and Spanish. The elevator, the bus, etc, all are in both. There is a small part of Houston with a Vietnamese population and the street signs are in Vietnamese.

Only things I saw that were in English were the directions on some of the highway signs (North, South etc.). We were given wrong directions. It was funny on the train. As soon as we passed through the Ontario/Quebec border, suddenly the announcements were only in french, and the attendants stopped speaking English. Oh well. The city looked nice, but the people were rude. I'm not going back there again if I can help it :P

Okay, either my French language training was really really good and I never noticed that they had changed to another language or they didn't do this on my train trip.

As for the rude people...... Quebec is very much like Europe in that respect. People are/appear to be gruff or rude but it's just their culture. I think of it as a character trait and carry on. lol

Oh and here in Houston it's all in English and Spanish. The elevator, the bus, etc, all are in both. There is a small part of Houston with a Vietnamese population and the street signs are in Vietnamese.

We have Spanish-only signs here in Florida too. I find it interesting that they don't have English along with it. But it certainly helps me to learn new words. lol. You know, it was new to me to pick up a tin or a package at the grocery store and to not see French on them, but now I'm finding that there are more and more products with English and Spanish on them so I have to search for the English version. I'm going to have to learn Spanish, now, so that I can read them interchangeably like I did with French. Plus it would be nice to know what people are saying to me here.

Why do I always feel violated after visiting the dentist???

First, I just read this...and it made me go...

I thought you were implying that your dentist violates you..

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

If you're anything like me, you just parted with a lot of money, usually a root or a tooth, and it seems like he's the only one getting off.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the dentist. I had two root canals done over the last three weeks (the 2nd one had to drain so they finished it last week). Our bill after insurance was about $280. I just got the statement from the insurance company showing what they had covered - they covered about $1000 so those root canals were upward of $600 each - and they were for front incisors - only one root each tooth, not like they were molars. Ouch - I hate to think if I didn't have insurance for those.

We HAD insurance for hubby's last year.. the initial root canal cost 1300$ (for one).. we paid $300.00 after insurance, and then the actual crown wasn't covered at all - another $600.00!! EEPP!!!

Maybe we need a new dentist

Why does everything have to have wheat in it?! Good lord! We went to TCBY yesterday and I had the peanut butter delight yogurt. It wasn't until about 20 minutes later when I started to get the stomachache from H*LL that I went to their website to look up their ingredients! Well, in my experience peanut butter chocolate ice cream usually just has a peanut butter ribbon in it, and that's what I thought I was getting. NOPE! Not there, it's peanut butter cookie and ribbon. I don't know how I didn't notice it, but it tasted like normal. Anyway, still have the stomachache from H*LL and that pisses me off. I deal with it better if I'm intentionally eating wheat, even though I shouldn't. Then, at least I know that I knew better and I deserved it! It sucks when I'm not expecting it, that's for sure! ~sighs~ This sucks!

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Do you have a wheat allergy? This is why, though I don't think they should have a warning for every single thing it contains, that they should have product info sheets at a lot of these places, because issues and allergies are so prevelant now. Or they should have it labelled a bit better (or have some random obscure name so you have to ask whats in it like "Heavenly cloud" or something, cuz then you would ask whats in it.

Yeah, I just read the article and heard about the broadcast. I hope Fox and the various individuals involved do make that apology - their comments really were ridiculous and ignorant - especially when 4 more Canadian soldiers have just been killed in Afghanistan. It was because the Canadian army went into Afghanistan that US forces were freed up to leave Afghanistan and invade Iraq. Seems they don't know their own American history either.
