Yea... they're just mean spirited. They talk about everyone, they b1tch about everyone. I know where it's coming from but it still tends to annoy me.

Perhaps I will say something because its becoming a daily thing.

I am looking for a new job anyways, remember that ad I did for South Jersey magazine? I found out that my boss took full credit for it.

I try not to vent at all because I have had a really bad boss before in Canada that makes every boss I have now look like the equivalent of mother theresa but I get annoyed at certain things.

She's not mean, she's just not smart.

Sometimes she's hilarious, and I get her but most of the time I don't get where she is coming from.

I don't blame you for being annoyed. That sounds more brutish than funny. I'd let them know it's not appreciated before I totally lost my cool.

I agree. It doesn't even sound like it has anything to do with you being Canadian or Native - regardless I think they would just find something else to make fun of.

It is true. They make fun of everyone... they just have targets with me and all they have is where I am from... perhaps thats a good thing? :P

I used to get that at my old job a lot. Some of the workers were so lazy (construction) they'd come up to my desk and make jokes about canada for HOURS at a time. I know they were just joking but after awhile it was like...go pick on someone else. We all get it! I'm Canadian! Har-Har!

If I was from Spain, I wonder if I would have gotten the same jokes/annoyances.

I think you should just sock em in the mouth :D

Oh- you know, I never knew that being Canadian was so funny. I think we all have a good sense of humour and sometimes it appears we do silly things I guess if you are on the outside looking in, but it appears that many Americans think are existence is almost comical in a way? It's very odd.

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

What did they do/say, Nev?

It's just anytime I do something wrong they blame on me being Canadian and I know it's in fun but jokes can get old fast. And then I was asking about our dental plan and they said: "Its better than what you had in Canada..." and they started talking like they had no teeth and talking like that and asking if my family had teeth and stuff.

I mean I know they're joking, but it's just really annoying... it's going to boil over and I am going to flip out soon and say a few things I'll probably regret.

I would never ever make fun of someone like that ever! I don't understand where they get off saying the things they say is all. I can laugh too, I love to make fun of myself, but when it's all of the time it gets old.

They also make fun of me because I'm native... BUT that I can laugh at because they don't realize I am a lakes tribe and the jokes they make is about the Lenape and their customs and I have a little inner laugh once in a while about that. Like they ask me how much wampums I make and stuff. Um read a book... each tribe was different morons.

Bah I wish I worked downstairs in the financial office, they're nice and actually talk to one another like NORMAL humans beings.

The way they speak is just bully-like, their tones and they way they both laugh at each others lame jokes. I remember the one lady got offended because I told her that prior to moving here i knew nothing about NJ and she laughed at me and I asked her the capital of Ontario and she shut up right away.

I am just annoyed.

just remind them that the last time americans annoyed canadians, the white house got burned.

Got burned down by the British Army that time, not the Canadian Army

In all seriousness though, making comments, even jokingly about natives is grounds for filing a claim against your employer. If you went to your boss and simply said that these comments were made, that you are offended and that it creates a hostile work environment, I'd bet my car that they would be reprimanded. If not, you have a workplace harassment case on your hands. Big money in those lawsuits :hehe:

I don't want to file a lawsuit.

I just wish they were intelligent.

You don't have to file one, but if you at least tell your boss, they will stop. Every manager is afraid of the potential for those lawsuits. But even then, you can't force some people to not be ignorant.

Yes, but punching them in the eye saves time and paperwork, plus it's fun and satisfying at the same time.
