I'm not sure if this is normal, but I got my greencard approval notice quite awhile ago, like 3 weeks at least I think. I haven't gotten my actual card in the mail yet though. I'm a little concerned. Should I be? Should I call USCIS? Are they going to make me pay for a new one?

Oh I just mentioned that to you in the other thread.... yes it's unusual that you recd your welcome letter a month ago and not your GC yet... the welcome letter says it should be recd within 3 weeks, and I got mine 2 days after the welcome letter.... I would call, as I have read on here people have called and USCIS told them the post office sent it back or something. If it got lost in the mail, they would probably make you pay for a new one :(

This type of thing really bugs me... if someone says they will call to let you know something, stick to your word. I had a job interview over 3 weeks ago, and the guy said "oh I'll know by Friday (3 days) and will call you either way". He didn't call for 3 weeks to say I didn't get the job, it really irritated me. Don't say you're going to call in 3 days then call 3 weeks later. I just wanted to know, I was sitting here every day wondering if he'd call.

I have my welcome letter right here, it says "please call us at 1-800-375-5283 if any of the information above is incorect, if you move, or if you don't receive your card within the next 3 weeks"

If you call it says to have your A# and the receipt number available.... I would assume they are closed on Monday.

Yes at least you have your EAD to start your job!!

Yeah, it's strange, the letter says 3 weeks, the email says 30 days, and so does the automated system! Weird. I called the automated line and used my receipt number and it says that they ordered production of my card on May 21, 2009, which was YESTERDAY! It's so strange that they ordered production over a month after they sent my welcome letter. Who knows. I just want to get it sooner rather than later! :)

Yep.. totally agree.. of course we have our current landlord breathing down our neck wondering when we're moving (or if we are).. she should be more considerate of that fer sure.. I just hope she doesn't string us along.. that is going to make us really frustrated.

Oh blah. Yes, I think lots of people do that - like the guy who didn't call jill back for 3 weeks, maybe he was undecided, so he just didn't call until he had finished all interviews or whatever. Ms house owner, you are probably right Em, she is hedging all her bets too.

That's stressful to have one person breathing down your neck wanting timelines from you and this other woman mucking around.

So it would appear we did not get the apt. as I feared. Hubby just called and she said she's leaning towards giving it to grad students.. Apparently those are the people she "likes" to rent to.. And we never really stood a chance anyway. So even though we saw it first, we told her we would love to take it first.. she chose to give it to someone else.

Blah.. I hate situations like that.

Grad students. Hmm, well whatever, I mean if that is the only thing you are basing your selection process on - whatever.

Well, I do hope that something else in your current area comes up that is just as nice.

My wife and I went to the movies last night. We had free passes for Star Trek and while the movie was good, we both were decidedly unimpressed. But that's not the point of this vent.

I've complained about this before, but all the damn commercials preceding the trailers are exceedingly annoying. Those are irritating by nature, but when every other word in those commercials is "Canada" or "Canadian" it makes me want to hit someone.

I know I'm in Canada so there will be a greater emphasis on Canada and Canadians. That's fine. I accept that. However, those commercials are annoying with their sole focus on Canada.

This is what it's like: "We're here in this Canadian studio to interview this Canadian actor who filmed a movie in Canada and is now sitting in his Canadian chair while eating his Canadian lunch. Earlier today, he took his Canadian dog for a walk (which made a Canadian ####### on Canadian streets) all of which was in Canada!"

Good God. Was that even necessary?

My wife says that doing so educates people on what is Canadian and raises their self-esteem.

Okay, so... in order for Canadians to feel good about themselves, they require getting force-fed annoying pre-trailer commercials (none of which anyone really wants to see, no matter where you live) on material they obviously didn't care enough about to learn on their own.

Wow. That's mind blowing. It really is. If Canadians need something so trivial to boost their self-esteem, there are larger problems at work. As far as people finding out this info, well... if they were interested in it, they would look it up on their own.

Well, I have not been to the movies in Canada in ages, but, I have a hard time believing that your "quoted" section is actually verbatim. So, you lost me there.

And as for the last part, as you plainly stated, it is your wife who says that. And really, it is not each Canadians individual SELF esteem being raised, but perhaps what she is claiming is that the esteem of our country is raised to know that not everything movie related, as commonly perceived, comes from Hollywood. But, self esteem is a bit inaccurate.

But alas, it is your wifes views anyways.

Of course that isn't verbatim.

I was giving an example of how ludicrous the whole thing is, that's all.

And as I said, if Canada's self-esteem hinges on pre-trailer commercial information, there are far greater and more important issues to deal with.

In my opinion is is.. when you have such a brain, talent, professional suck sitting right underneath your Country, and all the media flowing into the homes of your citizens is basically American, you DO need to point out that there are talented people in Canada, working and being very successful while choosing to stay here. It is about raising awareness and making people in Canada realize that we DO have a culture, a voice and our own take on the world around us. THAT is what most CDNS need to hear... not another commercial from some huge American corporation droning on about how their product rocks etc. etc.

And as far as unashamed pro-America dribble.. dang.. 1/2 the movies that come out as blockbuster movies are CHOCK full of pro-American often unfounded in reality dribble. It's high time Canada fought back I figure.
