No go dam it :bonk: . If I don't here from them today then I will have to make a reasonable assuption and use the exchange rate they used for the $420. I will just add a few more $$ to it to make sure I cover the $131us . I even sent them another email yesterday similar to the one you posted here. I will give them a few more hours. They don't work on monday so it is a waste to wait till then.

Oooo I hate to say it but.. you can't give them anything except what they request :S they'll reject the amount otherwise... I would send them ANOTHER email attaching the other ones, mark the email urgent, then make the subject "URGENT - INTERVIEW JUNE 1ST" and then again state that you need to new amount and need it ASAP as your interview is Tuesday.

ANOTHER idea is if they don't get back to you in time, you might be able to locate a post office new the interview place. THEN, when at the interview they ask for the visa fee you can show them printouts of your MANY emails about it, and they can tell you the amount then and there. You can leave, pay the amount, and return to continue the interview. Worst case scenario that's what I'd do. You have proof you've tried to contact them.

GOOD LUCK!

I've searched all over the website, and I'm surprised not to see a stickied thread on it... but of you Aussies, what are your experiences with international shipping of your assets to the USA?

I'm thinking about getting in early to get my stuff organised... so any help would be appreciated :)

Thank you :)

I've come to notice that not many places take large/overweight pieces :(

I plan on taking my sound equipment with me to colorado, but its a roadcase thats like 160x60x40cm and weighs like 80-90kg...

I'm starting to wonder if I should just oversize excess baggage it on the plane like travelling bands do...

I'll have to keep looking for shippers and estimates... haha

Hi James and Candice..

Just received my K1-Visa stamped in my passport this week so exciting..

Weve retained the services of Movement International, as im shipping over about one third of a container of stuff to Tennessee, and the cost for shipping is $5200.00 plus insurance which will cost approx 3.5% of the value of what you are moving. The have offices in all capital cities and move Door to Door as Im moving to the east coast our container will be shipped to NEW YORK and not as most do to the Port of Los Angeles.. Gary their Senior Business Delveopment Manager here was very knowledgeable has been with the company for over 25 years and they have all the accreditiation both here and in the USA [message me if you want contact details] you can look them up online there website is www.movementsinternational.com, having spoken to many of my clients who have moved to Australia from NZ, South Africa and other overseas ports thought the amount we were quoted was more than reasonable as they paid 3 times that amount some over $25,000 just for one container.. so check them out..

Wish you both well.. Kaye and Leo

Thank you thank you....Im moving some of my 'better' newer furniture...out door furniture and cos I am now going from 3 to 5 kids...I need my beautiful aussie redwood table that sits 10....how much stuff did you send over? lyndal.

So I have an UPDATE :)

This morning at 10.30am my alarm went off to wake me up. My husband walked in the room, I thought it was him making sure I heard my alarm... it wasn't.

He announced that his mother was pissed off again, and that we were being kicked out... TODAY!

So, I got up and we started moving stuff to our storage shed. We moved our 2 snakes, 1 hamster and 1 turtle to a friends house nearby. My husband's grandmother is allowing us to stay as long as we need (we just needed till Tues to find out about the house we want to buy) in her 1 b/r apartment. She has some sort of breathing thing where she's on oxygen 24/7 and goes to bed at 7pm (just let me say we go to bed later than that :P). She's allowing us to sleep in her room because she sleeps on the couch. She has a single bed, it's a hospital bed.

The friend that's letting the snakes etc stay at their place are allowing us to stay at their house during the day etc. To treat "their house as our house" which is really nice. We have left our food (just went food shopping yesterday :S) in the garage at his parents house because his father is allowing us too.

So.... yeah. Wanna know what started this drama? She sent tony a text of "orders" for the day (woke him up) followed by "I don't have the luxury of sleeping in all day".. I think referencing the fact I don't wake up till 10 or 11am. She ordered us to mow the law, do the dishes and general house cleaning (among other things) because they were having company come over. 1. Not our dishes. 2. I was going to do them that morning anyway to be "helpful"... not any more! 3. She spent ALL day yesterday chilling in the pool (it's in the low 30's here atm and 4. she could have done the dishes the night before!! 5. not our friends!

Tony replied with "F the dishes. I don't have the luxury of being bossy"... which probably wasn't wise :P So she replied with "get out. If you're not out before X then I'm calling the sheriff and having you charged with trespassing"

So now here we are. Sitting at our friends house making sure we have everything we're gunna "need" for the next week maybe before we find out if we're buying or renting (find out about the house on Tues). On the plus side, the puppy I'm interested is 4 weeks old next week so by the end of June it'll be ready for me!! (where before Tony's mum wouldn't let me have a puppy at their house, and we now have more time to find an apt that would allow it (if we go that way :D))

Hi LynJer... Im shipping my outdoor kwilla table with 8 chairs, and all my reclaimed wood furniture, ie entertainment unit, book case, hall stand, coffee table, postmasters desk, 3 bedside stands, my two bedroom suites, a trunk plus boxes... am not taking beds or white goods... i called Gary at Movements International this morning to confirm i could also take my steamer trunk as we were unable to sell it and told him you may give him a call, he is also going to view this website as he asked me to send the link as he would love to be able to help others like us who need good movers overseas..

Well tis June 1st only "8 Sleeps" until we fly out from Brisbane to Atlanta via LAX, talk about moving fast, after going through this process for nearly 2 years we are finally just about there, the house is just about ready for the movers who come this Friday, only have my computer desk and the wardrobe in the study to clear out, then start packing our suitcases with stuff we are taking on the plane, have culled so much stuff its unbelievable but then have lived in this lil duplex for over 20 years and cant believe some of the stuff i found way back on shelves and in cupboards, we have held garage sales Fri thru Sun for the past 3 weekends and sold off just about everything bar a few boxes of nick nacks, crockery and glasses and we are donating them to the Salvo's, just need to sell off my white goods and two beds and couches and we are done, second hand stores here hardly give you anything so as i said to Leonard if not sold privately we will just donate to the Salvo's and pass our good Karma forward.

I know many of you are having hassles or only just starting your immigration journey, just hang in there, and make sure you read all the help links on this website it helped me so much, especially all the help from our Aussie Thread Members, their assistance and support was invaluable..as the pantine commercial says "It wont happen overnight, but it will happen" just have a lil patience, make sure you check your check lists and read everything over and over and ensure its correct before you submit stuff and IT WILL HAPPEN..

Id like to personally thank Kath, Chris and Mara and Luke and Deanna for all the help they have given me, may need more when i get to the States and have to start the next round of immigration documents..I wish everyone good luck with your submissions and interviews and will post more once i get my laptop set up in the states next week.

Take care and blessing to all..

Kaye and Leo

Dam Vanessa.. so so sorry you are having all this drama.. i hope you can get into your own place pronto, i hope things improve now that you are not having to stay with the mother in law.. im so lucky that Leo already has his own home, but my future Mother In Law is a doll and if we had to stay with her it would have been a hoot, just wish you had one like mine.. keep ya chin up.. i feel only good things coming towards you from now on.. best of luck
