yeah i've decided to wait too. my fiance arrives here may 20 anyway, bringing the affidavit info, so he'd have to mail it if i sent it early which would probably take a week or so anyway.

Does anyone know if you can extend the 6 month period to enter the US and how? I'm still waiting on the interview date to be issued and I've already purchased a flight for Oct 31st (could not resist a great deal!) however, I just want to find out if this 6 months after receiving the k1 visa can be extended?

Hey all!

Congrats to everyone that's gotten their visa's approved and to all the newly weds, hope life is wonderful for you guys!

We had some hiccups in our process and things had to be put on hold, but now we're back in the swing of things. I sent Ben the rest of the info for his packet 3 at the beginning of the month and he sent it off to the consulate. However, thinking back through it all, I realized I forgot to include my updated letter of continuing support of the K-1 and intent on marrying him within 90 days of arrival. Soooo....should I just send this to him now and he take it with him to the interview? Or should I send it in to the consulate myself? Seems like just bringing it with to the interview should suffice, but I don't want anymore hiccups than we've already had! Back to stressing, lol!

And can someone explain the payment dealie, where you have to bring the receipt with you to the interview. It's US 130 last I checked, but is it purchased in the equivalent AU dollar amount, or does the post office put it in US? I feel stupid for asking, but like I said, I wanna make sure we're gonna get through the remainder of this process as smoothly as possible!

Hope everyone is well!

i'm not sure off the top of my head if you actually have to include that letter in pack 3 or bring it to the interview, so the first thing i'd do is double check that.

if you do, send it to the embassy and get him to bring another copy with him to the interview just in case.

also you could always email the embassy. i'm sure it won't be a biggie though.

MzMo1102- i don't think so- perhaps if your interview date gets scheduled too soon you could seek to delay that some, thus pushing out the 6 months as its from when the visa is issued? but remember you only have limited time to have your interview too- 4 months from NOA2 or something like that

Anyone have a rough idea of how long Sydney's been taking to schedule interviews, from when the pack 3 stuff is sent off? and how much of a wait there is until the interview date?

I know that after receiving the approval (NOA2) you can ask for an extension for another 4 months. Just not sure about extending the period of entering the US once the visa is issued.

As for packet IV - I sent off packet 3 via express post on April 30 so they'd received it the next day. This afternoon I have received the packet 4 and my interview date is June 9. I had emailed them yesterday asking how long it takes to receive an interview date and they advised that once your packet/documents have been received, itll take approx 5-10 business days to review - then they will issue an interview date. So as far as mine went, it takes over a month from receiving packet 3 to actual interview.

Hi there!

You can just send in your letter of intent to him now so he can bring it to the interview which will be easier.

As for the payment details, I received my packet IV today and it states the following:

(XX) FEES: This fee can be paid at any Australia Post outlet. You will need to advise the counter assistant that you would like to pay the U.S. non-immigration visa application fee. Ensure you bring the original receipt for this payment with you to the interview.

1AUD$196.50

Hmm, I wonder if this has gone up... I don't remember paying that much for my J-1, and I'm pretty sure it's the same fee.

...Just dug up my old passport and it says I paid $130.00 At Australia Post for "American Embassy US Non Immigrant Visa", then an additional $136.50 (US $105.00) at the Consulate for "J1 NIV ISSUANCE".

Oh well, money can't compare with what we're in this whole process for =) At least it's good to know I'll need to have a few hundred saved up in a few months to pay for police checks, medical, fees etc. How handy this forum is!

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

Hmm... Jesse is thinking about coming Down Under for Christmas. I'm wondering if I should tell him to wait or time his trip so that he'll be here the same time as my interview? (Hard to say when that will be as we haven't filed just yet!). Does the Sydney Consulate allow your fiance in to the interview with you? They wouldn't allow my mum in with my for my J-1 but I assume that's because she had nothing to do with it...
