WooooooooHooooooooooo more exciting news...

Leonard cheque was cashed April 24th and on the 28th he received the Official Receipt (is that the NOA1) and it had a case file number attached.. so i guess we are finally in the system, i did a time line check and it seems our case may not be adjudacated until AUGUST this year!!

Has anyone else recently filed? would this be the case? seems a long time for our case to be allocated and opened.

Cheers to all Breezie

I just got word two weeks ago that we got NOA2. I'm still waiting to hear back from DOT NVC to see when they'll send our package to the US Embassy in Sydney (and to get our case number). In the meantime, my fiance had his medical exam in Hobart, and has already sent away for him Police records. Does anyone know what exactly is in "Packet 3"?? We've already started filling out what we expect will be the required documentation (I-134, DS-230, DS-156 & DS-156K). The idea was that we'd be able to send our package back to the Embassy immediately and then schedule the interview. Any recommendations from people who've already been through the process? Also, how far out is it to schedule an interview once you hear back from the Embassy??

Any ideas or info is greatly welcomed.

Cheers,

Annie

Welcome to the thread! I notice that you're in Seattle too :)

Packet 3 for the K-1 visa should simply be in the form of an email with a link to this page: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/consular/visas/iv/fiance.html

Hi Kaffy-- thanks for the quick reply. I think you're the first Aussie couple that I've seen on here from Seattle too. Bet you're hating this crummy weather after yesterday!

The link you provided-- that's actually the site that we've been using to download forms, and look up doctors, etc..

Just to familiarize myself with the process further, do you know how long it takes to hear back from the Embassy after you send off Packet 3? And what does Packet 4 contain?

Thanks,

Annie

It depends on how busy they are.. I would say it usually takes them between 2-3 weeks to review the materials and schedule appointments.

Packet 4 also comes via email and here's a copy & paste of what I received (other VJers can verify if this is the same as theirs)

Subject: Checklist for Day of Interview - Mail in apps.doc

Dear Ms. xxxx,

Your appointment has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 9:00am. Please bring this email as confirmation of your appointment and present it to our security guards on the day of your interview.

Please review attachment regarding additional required documents. Failure to provide documents on the day of your interview may cause a delay in the issuance of your visa.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

U.S. Consulate General, Sydney

The checklist was simply a Word document template that they used to check off anything additional you had to bring to the interview (i.e. birth certificate, police certificate, etc), basically anything that may have been missing from your Packet 3.

Hope this helps :)

I slowly getting used to the 'sunny one day, crummy the next' kind of weather here :P And whenever I see a forecast for rain, I just tell myself to be thankful that at least it's not snow

maybe try calling the nvc. we did that and found out that they sent the package to sydney the day after they received it. we were very lucky :), it can take a lot longer in some cases.

Whew, so we got everything just about sorted and are sending off our packet as soon as Jesse gets paid, yay!

Rather specific question, because I think someone else here was an au pair - I lived in the US for 12 months (technically 13 since we get a 30 day "grace period" to leave), would I need a police certificate from Connecticut? I would assume so but I asked my dad and he doesn't even think they'd have me on file anywhere to run a check. I thought I'd just call the Greenwich PD to find out but I figured I'd check here first just in case =D

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

April 2009 - Engaged!

05/20/09 - I-129F petition mailed in

05/22/09 - NOA1!

05/25/09 - touch

09/09/09 - NOA2!

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

a US FBI check is not required as they can run their own background checks

Present and former residents of the United States should not obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.

can anyone tell me what the deal is with the following:

"1. processing fee receipt: AU$130 for each applicant. Go to any post office , pay the fee, and obtain one receipt for each applicant, attached to the outside cover of each passport. Valid passport (and any expired passports bearing United states visas)"

i don't remember reading about this anywhere else?

I think that's a standard for all visas. I had to get it for my J-1 (same price). As far as I remember I didn't attach the receipt anywhere, I just took it along to the interview with me and gave it to them when they asked for it.

thanks, i just don't see anything in the docs from the consulate telling me to pay this or how- so how are people supposed to know to do it? perhaps they send it with pack 4?

think i did it for my b1/b2 but that was years ago so i can't remember any details.

It's standard with non-immigrant visas and yes, the instructions should be on the Packet 4/Interview notification letter.

May 19 is not too far away, and you should get your results within a few days of completing the interview. And since you haven't received the police certificate back either, I'd just wait on sending in your notification of readiness
