hey

i sent my form yesterday, and tracked it, and it said sent to

29/04/11 11:43

Delivered to R ALCHURIAT

ALEXANDRIA PDC

Is that the embassy? how do you know? hope it went to the right place...

Yep, you're all good mate, mine was T Smith at Alexandria PDC. I was confused too , so I called Aus Post to double check on 13 76 78 and the lady i spoke to said a lot of people make this call. T Smith was the name of the person at the embassy that signed for the registered mail and Alexandria PDC s the name of the "Postal delivery centre" that sorted at before it's final journey to the embassy.

When I explained what was inside the package, she said "well no wonder you're concerned, but i can assure ou it got to the embassy you addressed it to..."

Hope this helps, Wayne.

Im going to look into it abit more before i go, just wondering if you have thought about it or anyone else on here...

Not going to worry about travel insurance I don't think, but not getting it is always a risk i guess... as for health insurance, then yep, thats on the must-have list as soon as i can get it. one trip to the gp when i was there last time cost me $150 just for the consultation :(

Hey guys! I just found out something I didn't know and thought I would pass it on.

My mother and I were discussing getting her a passport and there was a section on the form I found interesting. It was the section where it talked about her birth certificate details

It stated that if she was born after the 20th August 1986 that her Australian birth certificate was not enough to actually GAIN Australian citizenship. In Australia the rule is anyone born after the 20th August 1986 MUST have been born to Australian citizens (by birth or naturalisation) or to Australian legal permanent residents. It went on to explain to that if the child was still in Australia on their 10th birthday then they gained Australian citizenship automatically.

I don't know about anyone else but I think that's GREAT news!! I wish I'd know this before. Can't believe I didn't!! My brother and sister are born after that date so it's a good thing mum has her birth certificate proving she's an Aussie otherwise they wouldn't be able to get a passport! Well they can also show a passport issued on or after 01/01/2000 for themselves or they need their parents proof of citizenship/LPR status but still!

ok, medical got done today, no drama's, hopefully wont take long to get the results back... and recieved my police report today also.... am i allowed to look at either of them before i send it to the embassy?

cheers

Hey :) Medical results didn't take long, think i had them within about a week, all you're waiting on really is the blood test. as for opening the envelopes, I don't think theres any problems.

As far as the police check goes, well you need to supply the consulate the original and a photocopy, so you kinda have to open that one.

Medical... mmm well i opened mine, because the receptionist at Dr Millar's office told me to, as she said before left she'd be enclosing copies of the paperwork for my own personal records.

So, as far as I am aware - theres no problem with us opening either envelope. but maybe wait till someone more experienced answers....

Regards, Wayne.

The USA definitely need to adopt this law too. I know they are working on changing the immigrations laws but it seems stupid to me that a baby that is born here is automatically a US citizen regardless of their parents citizenship or immigration status.

On another note, I saw today that Australia ranked no. 2 on the list of "The World's Best Places to be a Mother" (savethechildren.org) which I thought was interesting. Norway took the no. 1 spot and NZ came in at no. 6. The rest in the top 10 were European countries. The US was ranked no. 31. The worst was Afghanistan at no. 164.

Hi everyone!

Just thought I'd check in and give ya'll an update. So I finally made it over to the States a little over a week ago and yesterday had an intensely romantic 1 minute court house wedding ceremony :P

No problems encountered really except when we went to get the marriage license on the weekend I was told that I would need a letter from the Social Security office saying that I either have or do not have a SS Number. Well, I brought my SS card along with me so I definitely had one... apparently this wasn't enough proof... :bonk: Confused, I went off to the SS office where the lady behind the counter basically said the marriage license office lady was crazy and gave me a letter to say that I had applied for a SS# anyway. Confused? Yes, well so was/am I.

So I've just been preparing the AOS packet the past couple of days, cannot wait to get rid of it! However, I had a question regarding the DS-3025. Mine is marked as incomplete but eligible for a blanket waiver because vaccinations are not medically appropriate. My tDap however is marked as 'insufficient time interval'. I am not planning on seeing a civil surgeon because frankly I feel it would be wasted time and money lol. Anyone care to share their experience?

Cheers guys. Hope everyone is well!

xx
