Hello all ... long time. Hope you're all well & happy. Just a couple of quick Q's.

Has anyone been to a SSA office for a name change with their marriage certificate? Was it quick and painless or painful?

Has anyone been to an IRS office to have their ITIN #'s and SSN's merged?

One thing I have noticed, going to a doc is painful here. I've received quicker and better treatment at the emergency room than with my supposed family doc. I miss home ... :). TIA.

When I changed my name with the SSA is was quick and painless :) Brought evidence of my new and old names, explained that I came in on a K1 visa and that was it. Got my new card a week later, and had fun burning the old one.

I never had to merge an ITIN and a SSN because I've only ever had a SSN.

Doctors.....I didn't start seeing anyone until I got insurance through my job. I adore my dentist (prompt, does great work and has an amazing bedside manner to soothe my dental anxiety!) and I like my GP (old school, older fellow how is fairly quick) but I don't like my OBGYN at all. Brusque, rude and really left a bad taste in my mouth. I miss my old GP!

First Astrid, why was the Obgyn leaving ANY taste in your mouth? I think you might need to report her :P lol.

As for the SSN, it was like getting teeth pulled!! I had my name changed and my GC registered (so the "DHS Authorisation required" removed). Should have been quick and painless but USCIS still had me listed as my maiden name so they had to do a manual verification that should have taken around 3 weeks. So I waited 3 weeks and heard nothing. Called head office and they had NO record that the verification was waiting and advised me to call the office I went to (over and hour away). So I did call and eventually got put through to someone who was able to see that whoever did my paperwork forgot to get something from my GC (and apparently forgot to get a copy of it too) so nothing had been done at all. So I ended up waiting around 2 months but I got it in the end :S

Haven't been to the docs or dentist here yet so no opinions either way but I am concerned after everything you hear about US healthcare. **fingers crossed** living in a country town makes it less painful :P

Thank you, ladies. That's just about what I figured, no way to tell. Hopefully, I manage to find someone who is not having a bad hair day. And Vanessa, you've just reminded me that I need to notify USCIS about the new name ... :bonk:. Wish me luck!

Carebear - I know that feeling! I waited 45 minutes for an ultrasound completely busting and in pain. Only to be told that I needed an empty bladder for the measurements they needed to take. Now that was mean!

I've got the big ultrasound this coming Thursday - should be able to find out the gender which we're very excited about.

Someone told me to drink a can of coke beforehand to hype up the baby so it's not asleep and then there's a good chance we'll be able to see its private parts - problem is I keep getting a vision of a cartwheeling blob waving its willy at the camera and get a severe dose of the giggles

Simple things amuse bored minds lol

Congrats ... :).

I agree about the Coke ... . I'm addicted so I can tell you that we knew at 13 weeks it was a boy because he was doing all sorts of leg spreading moves so it was hard to miss. FYI - I did NOT want to know but I am glad I do.

So I was watching one of those stupid reality tv shows on E (yes I am that bored today lol)

And one of the women is dating an australian guy and he told her he has to return to Oz in 2 days as his visa is expiring and he's been offered work back home.

So she's a little upset as she likes him but hasnt been dating him long and is discussing it with her sister and her sister's partner. He (the sister's partner) turns around and says oh well why don't you just technically marry him then so he can stay in the country. It's not illegal or anything just a little frowned upon if you get caught.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We put up with months of visa BS then AOS BS then ROC BS and this #### is on tv saying stuff like that! Grrrrrrrr

People are so uneducated on the process. If they don't research it, that's what lands them in trouble.

"Oh, I married this guy and was in the US for 5 years. I went back to visit family, and now they won't let me back into the US for 10 years!!"

Well, if you leran about what's required... you don't fall into that problem. I just hate it when people say that. "Oh, marry someone here and you won't have to leave" is such BS. :(
