Poor QLD.

Although, on the lighter side, I do wonder if this could perhaps be gods response to all the farmers/people praying for water/rain in the drought period *shrugs*

Perhaps he had a few other emails to get to and finally started getting the requests through...

Yasi is looking crazy as at the moment, I hope the NQLDers are going to be okay :s

For all those keeping tabs on my progress....

APPROVED TODAY! :)

(I first sent in the form and fee, and that was it. So I took a chance and mailed all the evidence needed last month, and prayed it was matched to my original petition. I got no confirmation, no touches, but got approved today!)

YAY!! Fantastic news!! You got your police check and medical started? Got your P3 docs ready? I'm laying bets you'll be done in around 2 months :) if you have the docs ready to go.

You should get P3 in 2 weeks. Return it immediately and get an interview a week later for around 2-3 weeks from the letters date :D

Really?? :D I was hearing it was about two months to interview! Getting started on Police Checks now, but don't we need the case number for the medical? If not, I'll get right on that now, too!! :D

So Vanessa, I've got a question. There were police checks done for Australia back when there was a work visa being pursued. But plans changed and the K1 is what we're doing.

Are we able to use those Police checks for this? Or do we have to get them again? I don't believe the first one for the work visa required fingerprints.

I'm really hoping we can use these. Otherwise, how long do the police checks take for Australia and New Zealand?

Unfortunately you need police checks with fingerprints. How long it takes depends on your state (sorry I forget where you are). Melbourne it took 2 weeks. Medical I didn't NEED the case number but I just happened to have it by the time my medical was booked and it took about a week to get my results.

Call the USCIS doc in your area and call and see if you need the case number, some will, some won't.. You at least have your alien number on your NOA2 (when it arrives in the mail the USC should get it) but if have to wait it's not a big deal honestly, it'll arrive sooner than you think :). Also find out how long it takes to get the medical results back. If you can get started on that ASAP you should be in a good place when P3 arrives. It isn't a huge deal now if you need to wait because now it will feel a lot like rush rush rush :) The good news is that in around 3 months (if you need to wait) you could have your interview completed and flight booked back to your love :)

You'll be surprised honestly with how soon you receive that P3 email (my USC got the email and forwarded it to me). Don't forget there are links the same as P3 in my K1 thread in my signature so you can have the forms prepped and ready to go. Not to mention your USC will need to send you a further letter of intent and the I-134 and support docs (if you don't have them already).

I look forward to your happy updates :D

The New Zealand police check needs to be arranged by the Sydney consulate. They will send you a privacy consent form to sign and they then post it off. You cannot get it from NZ Police direct. The best you can get is a letter from NZ Ministry of Justice confirming you have no criminal convictions but they will not accept it. The good news is that from the time of the privacy form being returned to Sydney to the time they receive the PC from NZ is about 4 weeks. They continued with my visa processing and even scheduled an interview however I was not approved nor my visa issued until a week after the interview when the PC arrived.

My Queensland police check only took about a week and the Brisbane Medical Centre wont schedule a medical without your SYD file number :)

Well done on getting into this stage :D

No no, what I was wondering was... couldn't he go in and just get fingerprinted? He says he got "Federal NZ and federal Australian" police checks. If he just needs to add fingerprints to it, does he have to completely redo the whole thing? Or can he just get fingerprinted and use the police certificates he already has?

Just doesn't really make sense to have to do the whole print out and background check police check again if all he is missing is the fingerprint part of it. What do you guys think?

I'm having him take his police certificates in and get fingerprinted... and ask them while he is there. But is there a place I can call to check on this? Maybe the Sydney Consulate?

Nah it's a completely different check. He can't just "add" his prints. You're prints aren't on them, they just run them as WELL as your name so they'll have to run him all over again. I know for me it was $131. Sorry, no way around it. If the first one was a fingerprint check as well then sweet (there are 2 options, name only, or name and fingerprints) but if it was just the name check then it'll need to be done again.

I don't know about the NZ one though.. it might still be okay. As Carebear said you do that at the interview then I would submit the one he already has at the interview, and see if that's okay, or if they'll do another one.

Hmm... okay, so new Police check with fingerprints from Aus... and start the NZ one while at the interview?

I hate these things! So confusing! :P

Sorry I forgot to mention that the privacy form I signed for them to get the New Zealand police check was emailed to me by the Sydney Consulate at the time we were doing packet 3. I had sent the immediate form back and was awaiting medical results before sending back the balance of packet 3 requirements. It was at that time they emailed and said we notice you lived in New Zealand blah blah sign this. I emailed back and said do I need to as I already have a letter from the NZ Ministry of Justice. They didnt reply so I decided to sign the consent form and send back anyway. Am glad I did because when I was at the interview was when they turned around and said no the Ministry of Justice letter is not accepted and your visa decision is now pending the return of the New Zealand police check. By the time it arrived and they approved me was about 4 weeks after I had sent the consent form back. If I hadnt sent it and had waited until the interview then that would have been another months delay.
