Ended up at the Social Security office this morning. It was my intention just to go in to see if the number was on file so I could get it whilst they send out the card. Turns out that Sydney Consulate didn't actually apply for the SSN on my behalf. Conveniently, when I arrived I filled out the SSN Application form, and when we worked out that I hadn't been entered, the lovely young lady offered to do it straight away.

My SSN is now max 2wks away!

It's the last thing keeping me from getting jobs... hahah!

Did everyone see the new schedule of fees? There's been a discount to apply for the K1 visa, $50 more for the AOS etc. Some good changes some bad.. like losing my GC will cost me $365 for a replacement!! Ouch!

Yeah I saw them - $55 extra for AOS (including the $5 increase for biometrics) but a price reduction for finance - gee they had to put them up now? Pfffft I wanna refund lmao

Hey everyone. My fiance is waiting for his K-1 interview date and has started to look at flights. His travel agent asked if he needs a return flight, like he would for a regular tourist visa. Is this the case, or because of the special circumstances of this visa, can he have just a one-way flight?

He can have one-way or return. Doesn't matter either way but usually the return is cheaper.. you just don't use the return HOWEVER there was a report recently where someone was denied their AOS because they thought he'd left the country while his AOS was processing (they're fighting it of course) because he had a return ticket he never used. So if you DO buy a return, remember to cancel the return portion and keep note of it.

When I asked about an international money order at my local post office today I was told they don't do international money orders. I don't have a US bank account so a cheque isn't an option either.

What do I do? Can I pay in cash?

As far as I know, they only accept payment by cheque or money order. If you want to pay for it yourself, you'll have to send the money to your US citizen fiance and get them to write a cheque or get a money order.

Thanks girls...went for my first job interview yesterday & got the job YAY!! I am so over this limbo feeling. Fixing my SSN tomorrow to my married name & sitting the OH drivers test...finally a feeling of normality is returning.

I start in a couple of weeks time...I will be doing the merchandising in the apparel sections of Walmart not too far from home..which I am thankful for because once the snow flies I am petrified to drive in it!

That's awesome!!! LOL re snow I was just not 10 minutes ago having a conversation with Ted about Texas, winter, snow and even more snow in Arizona at Christmas (where we are visiting his parents)......and I'm a kiwi and never seen snow lmao
