I would have to agree with heading to the police station. I got mine (albeit in QLD) by going to the local cop shop, filling in a form to search based on my names (maiden and married), paying $156 and then they took my fingerprints while I was there. 9 days later I got back a police certificate issued by Queensland Police Service and that's what I'm sending in with my packet 3.

No news on my end sadly... hopefully next week, or the next. Hubby is back for a short while, so hopefully we can use this window to get through all the NVC stuff before he has to leave. It's a lot of "maybes" though. I'm not worried, as long as we get the NOA2 (and we should) then I can do the rest.

As far as AP goes Bacon, the Christmas next year trip won't be a problem, cos you'll have your Greencard by then, but I think it's worth having for peace of mind for before then, and hopefully you won't need it. Not sure what to do about the dates though.

Hey AusttoUSA: I'm from NSW and just recently got my police certificate. Your fiances local police station will take their finger prints and then send off the form to get the National Police check done. Get your fiance to call the local station ahead of time, some stations will refer you to the second closest, and they all have different days they do fingerprints. My local couldn't do finger prints, and the next closest does it on weekends only. The form is the P799 form and this fact sheet has all the info your fiance needs and forms of ID needed:

For those that submitted an AP. Can you tell me what you put in the date of travel and return section if you did not have a trip in mind? Also, what do you do if you leave and come back and then want to leave again? Is the AP good for the entire time or do you have to re-file once you've used it?

I've looked over the AP instructions and it says that you can only file an AP if you have a legitimate reason for wanting to leave the country. So I'm not sure if we have to have an actual trip planned or if you can put N/A and state that we eventually want to go back for a visit but not planning to immediately.

I mean, we want to go back to Aussie for Christmas next year but other than that we don't have any immediate plans. At the same time, though, his grandmother is getting older and if she should happen to pass he would like to be able to leave if we are able to afford the trip.

I wrote unknown for date of travel, and unknown for length of trip. I also selected "multiple trips" so it was/is valid for multiple trips.

If you have a specific date you want to go that's coming up soon, put that in so you make sure you can try and get it for that date. Otherwise you should get it in about 2 months from the date of filing.

An no, I didn't have a specific date of travel, i just wanted it for an emergency and I was approved without issue.

Howdy Aussie VJers. I have a question about the fingerprint background check needed for the K1 visa.

On the US Embassy - Canberra website US Embassy it states that for NSW, you just need to go to your local police station and they can process it all for you. But on the NSW info sheet for applying for a National Criminal History Record Check NSW Police Force , it states that if you require a police check for traveling or living abroad, you need to go through the Australian Federal Police AFP.

The embassy website refers to the check as a National Criminal History Record Check, which is what's offered from NSW. The AFP check is called a National Police Check. I'm thinking my fiance just needs to head down to his local police station in NSW. Suggestions?

Actually no, you read the link you posted wrong. It says if you "require a police check WHILST traveling or living abroad, you need to go through the Australian Federal Police" so as your fiance is in Australia then this doesn't apply to him.

Anzac Square rang me tonight to say the results are done and they're being express posted to be tomorrow. I'll take the balance of my packet 3 docs to work with me on Wednesday and should be able to shoot it away to Sydney Wednesday night for Thursday delivery.

I wore what I'd normally wear to work to the consulate, and it seemed about right. There were people there in jeans however. I don't think they're allowed to deny you on the basis that they don't like your outfit or that your handbag doesn't match your shoes. Probably just as well they don't let you take your handbag up, however, just in case.
