Hi Bex,

In my case, I did tell my boss that I would be leaving sooner or later, and I asked for a redundancy package (turns out they won't give me one because they know I'm leaving anyway and don't want to waste the money on it), but it's worked out really well for me: they've been entirely understanding. But before I did, I did the calculation of what would happen if they let me go immediately, and I figured I could live with it. I guess it depends on the company and the relationship with your boss...

You're right, full time is different to casual, but I guess the point I was wanting to impress is, anyone is expendible in the work environment, and at the end of the day, the boss is always gonna do whats best for the business, and rightly so. I agree with CareBear, go with your instincts. From your later posts, it seems like hiding the news might be cutting you up a bit, so maybe letting slip might actually make things easier for your conscience. Tough decision Best of luck!

Any recommendations/details for Sydney doctors?

Trying not to get stressed here on my end, we're waiting for NOA2 to come in, at the moment the USCIS isn't sending emails or updating the websites, the first anyone is hearing about it is getting the actual letter in the mail. Unfortunately, since hubby is overseas at the moment, we'll have to wait for him to get back home for him to check the post. Trying not to be too frustrated by thinking about our NOA2 sitting amongst a stack of mail.

Fingers crossed for you that the Sydney doctors and IR process may be different but for a K1 and with the Brisbane doctor they wont let me even book in without the new case file # assigned by NVC - so I'm back to waiting lol. I tell ya it's beginning to be the story of my life

I had an appointment Dr. Miller on the 6th of July or something, but had to change it to the 12th. I couldn't get in touch with his office, so I made the appointment with Dr. Waks.

They send the medical results to the consulate via express post.

I had my interview on Tuesday (20th July) and they had not yet received my medical. Following the interview, I went back to the medical center on George St to see what was happening. They tracked it through the australia post site and it was being 'processed' still. As of 10:30 pm 21/07, the status has not yet changed. I hope this is not anything to worry about as I had an approval for my visa, but won't begin processing until they receive the medical

I ended up telling them... The business manager started crying and the boss said 'oh ######'... Lol... I'm feeling a whole lot more at ease now... I think it's all going to be fine :thumbsup:

Bex - I kept my 'secret' of the K1 process from my owners/managers of my work right up until the day I resigned. To be honest, the owners were pricks, and even though I was a store manager, they only ever paid me casual rates and never gave any kind of compensation to all the extra work I did as a manager. They were the kind of people that if they got an inkling that you were thinking of leaving, they would just fire you and take away your choice. The only advance warning I gave way to my immediate supervisor, about two or so weeks before I quit, only because I knew she would not tell the owners and she understood what I was doing. But, everyone else that worked in my store knew that I was leaving and were very supportive, and never let it slip.

But yeah....for those that are not going through the visa process, it is very hard for them to understand, especially employers. It's a fine line to walk.

Bex - medical question - on the instruction form for the Anzac Square Medical Centre it says I need to bring 3 recent standard passport photographs. Do they want US sized or Australian sized ones?

yeah, that's a little why I was worried... But then I looked back at the 3.5 years I've been here...

- I told them in my interview that this was my plan, they still hired me...

- I've had 5 pay rises (over and above any government/tax in/decreases)

- every single performance review I've been told to keep doing what I'm doing and that it'd be devastating to the team if I left

- I'm the 2ic and get along well with the bosses

- they didn't fire me out of the two rounds of redundancies

I guess it really does depend on your specific situation... I've told them now, and everything seems fine... Ive been holding onto it for so long that I actually feel better now for doing it, was sorta eating at me inside... Kind of happy too about a full time job with a decent understanding employer I guess (for the record, I'm essentially 'subcontracted' to Disney)

It's going to be interesting looking for something in the big old USA lol
