Let me say I threw my resume at every company that was available and Walmart & Auto Zone were the only 2 places that bit. I am in the same boat as Astrid..I was making $20 an hour & here I am only making just on $9 an hour, that said the dollar goes a lot further here then it did in AUS too. We have a better quality of life here then we would have had in AUS.

It is all about perspective & Nick your outlook is amazing! Being paid to have fun is just awesome. I am lucky I love the people I work with & we all have a blast.

V -- I jumped up & down when he found my wallet. I cried from relief because I got paid today and it was all for the replacement GC..so thank heavens I did not have to write that cheque! I can now put the money into the new savings account I opened for Bek to go towards her College fund :)

I spent 3 months in the US recently and was a little worried about the pay discrepancy as well. As you say Terri the cost of living there is so much cheaper than here in Aust so that concern was alleviated pretty quickly. I'm pretty hopeful of landing a good job, I'm a qualified social worker and soon to be registered nurse. Thankfully my long suffering better half is on pretty decent money and I receive a pension for life from my 20 years service in the Aust Navy so the only real concern is going nuts with boredom waiting for the AOS. Does anyone know if you can do volunteer work whilst waiting? I'm thinking public liability and insurance may be an issue though. Maybe you should look at that while things are being processed ladies. It's what got me into social work in the first place; volunteering for a youth refuge in Canberra.

Wow :) I get so cold in the snow. I think cold cheeks probably gets me the worse. I like your facemask thing. Tony gave me one to wear but it's a balaclava one. I look scary as and it doesn't keep out all the breeze.

Yeah, I've had that facemask for a while now, but I'm going to invest in the full head version of it. Seems like a sweet mask :D

LOL I was a paralegal, earned over 60k. I'm currently enforced unemployed and addicted to daytime television.....I'll take Walmart and $5 an hour to get out of this house once I get my EAD :D :D :D

Thanks girls - its nice to know that I'm not alone in my frustrations!! You made me smile :)

PS - nice to hear you're having a blast Nick - do try not to break any major bones lol.

As soon as I knew I had my green card approved I started applications. I trawled through craigslist and went to every major retailers website to apply. I also went to local malls and hot spots to just hand out my resume. It was actually going out and giving my resume to anyone that would take it that got me my current job. I walked into the local Nine West. told them I was an amazing salesperson, and two weeks later I was working for them ;)

I applied for office positions too, but some of them were not in nice areas, or too far to travel, or really bad pay. All my employment background is in customer service or retail, so I went with what I knew.

Have fun on your road trip!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Usually it's 3 months to get NOA2 (that's petition approval), then they take around a month to get it to the embassy to get P3. If you return P3 immediately you could have an interview 2-3 weeks later.

All up from the date of filing you're expecting a 5 month wait. If it's quicker, great, but I've been reading that the NOA2 is taking longer to arrive. The Aussie US embassy is pretty quick at interviews etc though so once it leaves the US it should go pretty quick.

You too :)

I had dinner with mum and dad. Closest thing to xmas I've had with them for like 10yrs or so.

Now I'm sitting here at 12:30am waiting for my washing to finish drying, drinking by myself and listening to Phil Collins.

Go go super awesome Christmas.

I think I'm going to snowboard the bejeebus out of tomorrow.
