I havent seen it and it does looks like it would be funny. The tone of it I dont like, in the preview he just went around mocking people.

Here's the thing-the preview is not the whole movie and [i just know there is going to be brimstone and fireballs now]....Why is it 'mocking' to ask people what they absolutly believe and why...? Plus, it's not his fault if what they believe makes some movie -goers laugh- or comes across as alittle 'out there' and 'funny'.

JMHO.

eta-I hasten to add that the ppl from the different religions that he interviewed seemed only too willing to share their POV. No one forced them to.

His Santa Clause set up is a perfect example of what Im talking about. I did mention also that I had only seen the preview and asked somebody a question about the movie. I didnt jump to conclusions and I asked questions. With that said it would of been very easy to jump to conclusions considering Im familiar with Maher, his style, and what he thinks of religion. I have watched him on HBO and when he hosted Politically "Incorrect" and more often than not his focus is on the negative things about religion.

I hope my post didn't come across as 'attacking' or whatever...Wasn't meant that way at all.

I am interested in everyone's POV on it as the movie is based around something that I have found [here in America especially] as being somewhat of a taboo.

That's all. :)

No not at all. I just wanted to make sure you understood where I was coming from.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Have you seen it?

What did you think?

I thought it was interesting in the way that normally 'taboo' type questions concerning religion were asked of 'religious people' and 'religious leaders' of all different faiths....And it was very interesting to hear their reactions and responses.

It was kind of like Maher was openly asking questions of people that I wouldn't dare to ask ( especially here in the South where we live).

F..ck Maher. He is a friken loser. Who is he to make a movie mocking people's religion :bonk:

As I understand it, anyone can make a movie about most anything. The question is, if the movie is made, is it worth watching and everyone will have their own pov.

I haven't seen it, and I very much doubt that I will. I know that people believe the weirdest things already :)

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Bill should have done a documentary on how nitrogen in the air is causing global warming and may have won an Academy Award, no rewards for picking on religion.

We have MVP with Hollywood video, Religious is hot right now so would have to pay an extra four bucks to watch it, but that will die in a couple of days, then put on sale for a couple of bucks. Plus HBO will show it endlessly for the next ten years. Can wait a couple of days.

Will I learn anything? Probably not, but may be nicer than watching someone getting their head cut off with a chain saw. Lot's of movies like that on the shelves now.

maybe bill should take a trip to saudi arabia or iran to do some investigative work.

Yet-to me- it's still interesting to see the reactions of some [especially the senator] when questioned about exactly 'what' they believe.

omg that senator!!!! "there isnt an IQ test to be a senator...."

at least he was honest

...he and anyone can make a movie about religion if they so chose. To me-Maher was not the main part nor the object of the movie; of course it's all subjective and open to interpretation...That's why i enjoy discussing people's POV on it.

I did see it a few weeks ago. At first it started out how its going to explore all religion but it ended up focusing just on Catholism and only a bit of Jewism.

Now, I am an athiest, so I should have enjoyed seeing some religion getting torned up, but I wasn't impressed because it just focused on only one religion. Every religion has silly meaningless rules, regulations, values and stories. I wish the host of that movie would have explored other religions too and not just focus on Bible.

Actually he spent a significant time on the Muslims and some on the Mormon's too.

I liked most of it but cringed at his obvious pro-Israel stance when he talked to a Rabbi who was not for Israel.

In any event I like the fact that he made this movie. Kind of like the Divinci Code in that someone dared question what millions of people every day just take for truth. If more people did this questioning the world might look very different today. He had some very intelligent questions.

Although I'm not a Christian I did like that one anology that a preacher told him regarding the trinity........it's like water..it can take the form of ice, water, etc.
