I didn't really care for The Watchmen. It wasn't bad, but I felt the characters lacked any real personality. I couldn't empathize with any of them. Most of who they were was related through far too many flashbacks. Sure, some of the flashbacks weren't bad, but none explained the characters' motives and reason for being as adults (except maybe Dr Manhattan).

I felt like the director was trying to cram the entire graphic novel into a movie and doing such, lost a lot. Maybe the graphic novel explains more (books usually do), but the movie, despite being three hours or so, failed to make both my wife and I care about the characters.

Probably the worst out of the lot were Night Owl and Silk Spectre. Why did they fight crime? What was their motivation? Why did they come to be in the first place?

Time didn't make a lot of sense, either. The Silk Spectre (the original) was a young crime fighter in 1940 and 67 years-old in 1985. That means she would've been 22 in 1940, right? Well, the Comedian looked virtually the same from 1940 to 1985. How did he age so little? He wasn't immortal. So what gives?

Something else confused me, as well. In order to avoid a possible spoiler if someone hasn't seen the movie, but for some reason is reading this thread...

How did the second -- and modern -- Silk Spectre come to be? The Comedian attempted to rape her in 1940, but failed. However, she eventually had a kid with him. Why would she willingly have sex with someone who tried to rape her?

I liked it.

The time passes very fast (make sure you eat a good meal before you go in).

Reading the books before would give you some more insight that a movie would not possible give you (there are some that say the LoTR book hasn't been done right yet on the screen).

I was surprised they changed the ending from the books, but you know how those directors are... (probably why Alan Moore refuses to see his "work" ripped apart for the screen)

The action was intense, the slow parts actually meant something, and the interaction with the people on screen was pretty good.

I really like the scene where Rorschach has to use the men's room in the prison - nice camera work there. (of all the heroes - he is my fav)

Doc M - well - in the comics, his ####### was "understated" like they did in classic sculpture, in the movie, it was all CGI ####### (larger than in the comics)... It wasn't too shocking, but for a guy who can walk on the sun, why wear clothes???? I like the actor who did him - his voice came across "honest"

Since I'm in my forties, I was able to get in touch with the movie during the 60/70/80 time frames. I am really glad they put in the WTC in the skyline of NY. I had heard rumors that some movie companies do not want to add them in "period" movies because of 9/11.

Basically, Moore's book was about how "human" the heroes were, and how Doc M stayed in touch, just enough....

I look forward to the extended DVD cut with all the extra's.

If you have the time and the bucks - go see it on a big screen, but keep in mind, it's not "spiderman" or "ironman"

to answer deadpool (non-spoiler) sometimes women just do what they want to do on their own terms.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.
