We know the my wife's AP will be issued next month (middle of the month).

Can she leave the country before (4/5)? I will send her the papers later, before she is schedule to return.

The answer is clearly stated in the 1-131 instructions found on this page:

If you travel before the advance parole document is issued, your application will be deemed abandoned if:

1. You depart from the United States; or

2. The person seeking advance parole attempts to enter the United States before a decision is made on the application.

Can't say that this hasn't been done, but it is truely not a good idea to risk such things...
