Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone out there will know the answer to this??...

I am flying out to the States in a months time on my K1 visa (woooooooo!!) but am concerned about the length of time on my passport...it expires at the end of October, and I'm flying in on th 19th July...I have over 90 days left on my passport when I enter...my thoughts were to enter on my current passport, and then after I'm married apply for a new passport at the British Embassy in the States.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I don't really want to renew my passport before I go incase they invalidate my visa in any way (yeah I think I'm just in a panic...I just want it all to go smoothly!!) :)

Thanks everyone...

You should check with your embassy, but I think in order to get the fiance visa your passport must have at least 8 months left of validity. I know for a fact that they don't cancel your visa when you get a new one, only thing that they do is (at least in Brasil) is tell you to carry both passports in a trip, the valid one plus the one containing a valid visa even if the passport has expired.

Since you are flying out in a month, I would wait until you are here to renew your passport in case there is any delay in renewing it between then and now that leaves you without the passport in your possession. There have been others here who have renewed their passports through their country's embassies without difficulties. Perhaps one of those who has renewed their British passport while in the US will share their experiences.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Just to be on the safe side as I am sure I have read that you have to have 6 months on your passport, call the US Embassy or our passport office to check

I renewed my passport here in the states after I was married... it only took 2 weeks to get it back and they returned the old one with the corner cut off.... but still with my I-94 inside.... I took both passports with me to the interview and had no problems....

If I were you I would renew immediately - I am 99.9% sure you must have at least 6 months on your passport. Best thing to do - to put your mind at rest is call the airline - whenever we have booked our flight it says in the guidelines 'you must have at least 6 months left on your passport'.
