i dont see pg tips mentioned anywhere???

i think if we were going to do the whole wedding thing id want an afternoon tea thing.. traditional big weddings are so overated and overpriced

Oh, I did forget to say we had imported tea from Sainsbury's for one guest...the GROOM.

I actually got the idea from one of my young Brit friends from the old K1, waiting on the NOA2 threads. Most of the girls were planning formal weddings and I wasn't. She suggested an afternoon tea party. So we did the afternoon party thing, but it was more like champagne punch and coffee since these were mostly my "coffee friends" who I see regularly at a local coffee shop and Nick knows from all his visits. People stood/sat around a talked and visited and some of the guys watched the end of an important NFL football game. We all dressed casually. The judge had on a shirt and tie and tennis shoes (trainers). Then we gathered on the patio...no chairs, no walking down the aisle, or music...just a group of close friends/family gathered around us and we said some nice vows we made up. Then we cut the wedding cake and broke out the bottles of champagne, toasted and celebrated. The whole thing lasted about an hour and a half.

If you plan a little cake/champagne or tea/biscuits thing mid afternoon, you don't have to feed people a meal. I think ours was at 2:00, maybe 3:00 ...already forgot. We were originally going to a judge's office then out to a restaurant with immediate family, but our little afternoon gathering turned out short and sweet and worked for us. It was informal, but had some touches of a traditional ceremony and some elegance with the china, silver and crystal. I think the elegance part made it seem like a special occasion rather than just an afternoon coffee break.

when we have saved for the proper big wedding, i am thinking i want a moroccan theme.. we can be out in tents somewhere.. prob by lake michigan.. or a smaller lake if we can.. and just have bright decorations in there.. bright colours spice and it must be fun.. i dont like the whole stuffy traditional thing where people cry and get over emotional..

You just have to pick what fits your lifestyle and you can afford. A rock 'n roll bash with beer and a Harley Davidson wedding cake would be appropriate for some. We come in all shapes, sizes, ages, cultures, and levels of income so there's endless possiblities of what's right for each couple. It's fun to hear all the ideas people have. Just remember the marriage is the important part, not the ceremony that legalizes it.

Your wedding sounded just perfect Nich. We are only having a small 'do' with a BBQ for the reception. Depending on how many people can make it, we may even just have a meal afterwards. The way it's going at the moment is it'll just be my parents, Tom's parents and a few friends. Most of my family are too old to travel and Tom doesn't have anyone else. As we are funding it ourselves, we are very budget driven. Mum's gonna make my dress, his parents will probably do the BBQ etc.

Thank you. It was just right for us. We're older and I was a widow after a long marriage. I had already had that big church wedding and done big fancy church weddings, dinner, dancing for my two daughters in recent years. So all I wanted to do is get married and get on with a new happy life. Our entire town had been evacuated for hurricane Ike just 3 weeks before and most of us were without electricity for a time after. (There was no flooding or devastating damage luckily...just lived off peanut butter crackers, Vienna sausages, granola bars, Pop Tarts, and hot sodas for about 10 days. Yuk!) That was why I hadn't worked out a plan until last minute. We were suddenly dealing with a hurricane and interrupted lives. The whole thing just came together last minute because people were happy for us and wanted to help in some way. Kind of a miracle that we pulled it off.
