They want your previous years taxes, if you qualify based on that you are fine I think. You need to figure out how to get that AOS going, the sooner it's filed it seems the less hassle, and in your case in particular you probably want to avoid interviews etc (k-1 interviews seem pretty rare when filing happens before the I-94 is over, but if it takes over a year to file AOS then it seems like it happens most of the time). I'd go so far as to say that you probably should go into debt for the AOS fee if it's your only choice, I think it's that important, 3 months of nothing to do, especially if money is tight, is torture for anyone, especially someone who isn't going to have a close set of friends etc, school or work or something is pretty much a necessity.

Good luck with the job hunting, at this point you should probably be looking for just about any steady job you can get.

Thank you SO MUCH Maliciant! We're discussing what to do now.

I wonder if I could sell my #### for money? Surely some desperate houswives would call? LOL!

I think it's better to get it done sooner, as well...deciding whether to sneak the JP and do a ceremony later or try a quickie all at once out back.

I know how you feel.

We've completely wiped our our account by applying for AOS because my husband is still looking for a job with more hours (he works 20 per week). It is hard, but it's doable... remember that the wedding day isn't everything. The AOS is more important in the long run.

After being here for 3 months with nothing to do, it has gotten to me enough that I'm starting to climb the walls a little bit, but I think that's mainly because I want to move out of his parents house and am desperate for us to find more income. EAD and AP seems to be taking only a few weeks at the moment so I'm starting to work on my resume (is it just me, or is really hard to find things about yourself to brag about?) so that I can start looking for jobs when the EAD comes in. Other than that, I've been dying for some independence and the AOS is really the only way forward. It's so important to file as soon as you can. We filed a few days after the 194 expired so I hope we don't get called for interview on that basis.

Good luck!

Marm, hold on there , it will be over soon. Our Heavenly Father knows the situation,

Hyena , don't stress so much on the job issue. It will come in God's timing, keep looking and have a positive outlook . All will be well.

Gemmie , I dont think it will cause a problem. I sent my paper's 2 days before my i-94 expired , with a a wrong month on the check, the paperwork was returned to us, we sent the paperwork a week after that , all went smooth- I didn't have an interview. I understand what you mean by wanting to do something but I think at this point i take a day at time, ive left it all in God's hand and i keep myself busy( reading books - that gives me a lot of encouragement. I thank God im here and i know His will , will be done . I take a day at a time and thank Him for His blessings.

Mara....... Hope you hear some good news soon , Your are in my prayers.

Fred Congrats on your progress, so far

CuchitaIts not an easy path, we will get there, someday.

To all other August filers, I want you to know there is always a way. It may not be easy; it may not be convinient; it may not come quickly. You may have to go over , under, around or through. But if we simply keep on keeping on and refuse to be discouraged, doubtful or distracted , we will find a way

Have a Blessed day.

Can they tell the judge that it's a matter of national security and basically stonewall him as well? I wouldn't be surprised to find out they can, but hopefully that won't be the case.

HYENA: I think generally most men can only sell there #### (I assume that's a word that rhymes with gas) to uh... other men... I'm not sure what I'd sell mine for but I'm pretty sure no one in their right mind would pay whatever the asking price is...

On the whole debt thing... while I haven't exactly struggled to make ends meet, I have always lived cheaply and had very little debts, but I did have one for around 10,000 which has mostly built up interest for the last year, I finally made the first payment in 260 days last week (which didn't even cover the interest from that time period and obviously this thing has no late fees, or I'd have made some kind of minimum payment etc), if it weren't for the whole getting married thing I most likely would have had that debt paid off several months ago, the biggest expense though is health insurance, by far... but now that my wife has a job (*sigh* two jobs... though she doesn't plan to work both for too long, her goal is about 3 months) money is much less tight... down side is obviously she's not going to have a lot of free time for much of anything including sleep.

Here I come with a few more questions (as usual, we're always the ones who don't seem to be getting this right).

1. Is it important or required to have a Social Security Number before filing for AOS, and why?

2. A few other questions are here, it just seems that people don't read other subforums nearly as much as, say, this one.

3. Has anyone else had to register with their local Post Office (USPS, no kidding) in order to get their SSN delivered to their address? I have been getting mail in both my maiden and new name without problems, but apparently my SSN card has gotten lost because I never registered my existence with the post office. Jesus.

Thanks for your help. My head is spinning. Sigh.

1. Is it important or required to have a Social Security Number before filing for AOS, and why? This allows you to get a state ID or drivers license which also allows you to get a bank account.

Hi Badgerella:

I don't know too much but hope I can help:

1. A SS# is important because health insurance companies requiere it, also many municipalities require it to get a marriage licence, and it is the way the taxation dept. keeps track of you.

2. I think Tommy's girl replied to all accurately.

3. At my local social security office they recomended that we put my hubby's last name in the mailbox so the mailman can deliver that important document with no hessitation, so we did and he got it in the mail with no problem.

Also look for you Alien number inside your passport where your visa is stamped, I think it is to the left at the bottom, starts with letter A followed by numbers. Whatever they handwrote at POE could be a mistake by officer, don't go by that.

Hope this helps.

Take care,

Cuchita.

You don't have to have an SSN to file AOS, but you SHOULD get it before the I-94 expires (and you need to request it about 2 weeks before then or they may refuse to get you one), if you don't you have to wait until AOS completes to get it. It's easy to get your SSN normally so you should get it, you have a few months with nothing better to do...

Registering at your post office isn't always necessary, for example, I did not, but I think in cases where the USC is marrying someone else and her name will change, then it's important. I imagine most stuff will get there no problem but when it says registered or something on the mail they might be a bit more cautious with it. Since I live in an apartment generally people put their names inside the mailbox on a piece of tape so the mail man can easily see what names of people there are.

Thanks :luv:

My fiance got a reply from the US Embassy in London today, he sent in the DS-157 form as an attachment to the email because the embassy told him that he can send it as an attachment. I don't know why they asked for a new DS-157 after so long of him being in AP, but at least they are working on his case. Hopefully it shouldn't be longer now!
