We are now married!!

Everything went well.. it was a nightmare at first trying to find somewhere to do the ceremony as all parks were fully booked for labour day weekend and my visa expires next week. So we had one day, picked up lots of decorations, flowers, etc and made the deck in the back yard look really pretty. The ceremony itself lasted all of 3 minutes and I was a nervous wreck! My dad and best friend were listening on speaker-phone which was nice (my dad cried and my best friend was so excited). Then we went to a nice italian place to eat... and then went off on our mini-honeymoon. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous.. they upgraded us to an executive suite just because we got married! We had a jacuzzi in our room, along with 2 huge TVs, a king-size bed, a living room, etc.. we didn't want to come home.

We're finalising the AOS documents and sending them within the next 2 days.

I was wondering how everyone's getting married. Given the economy and the fees for visas, it's many forces against us. I've got a marriage license sitting in my car and can't decide whether to go to the courthouse and get it done or have a couple family members here and do it out back.

I'm holding off for now...til some job pops up if it will. Never been without a job in my life!

We were able to pull it off at low expense with a bargin dress from Davids (and my daughter's too) and some good buys on linen shirts from Men's Wearhouse and khakis from all sorts of places. We rented a beachouse for the week instead of paying hotel fees and used it as the venue as well. Awesome cheesecake from the Cheesecake factory and we were good.

Looked a lot more expensive then it actually was ;o)

This is right after her make over. She did her make up at Nordstroms, Clinique. They did a really good job, simple and yet elegant.

We spent:

- $25 for my dress

- $27 for his waistcoat

- $150 on decorations (that we've re-used by wrapping them around grapevines and putting outside)

- The flowers/bouquet that my MIL bought for me.

That's all. We can't afford a big thing (like most people right now) and the materials aren't important to us anyway. The entire thing lasted only a few minutes and it was a special moment.

Afterwards my new grandmother paid for everyones meal at a nearby Italian restaurant, who gave us quality seating because we just got married. And of course the upgrade at the hotel because of the marriage also. We were very very lucky.

Sorry for my message on Facebook - I looked at your pictures and assumed you were already married by one of them in particular.

Updating the August folks: we filed our AOS today.

I got married in Thailand (ceremony, not legal); spent a few grand for that. We've got outfits for the kids and a Thai dress for her and I've still got my pimp Thai suit....just where, when, how? Tempted to skip into the courthouse then do the ceremony later.

She's going through significant culture shock now....and some miscommunications so I'm staying quiet and friendly as I can. Imagine coming from rough roots to a palace in comparison and you can't bring your family. They scavenge for wood to cook food and I burn wood because it's fun here (out back is a forest of trees; they fall down frequently). Her family has had recent years with not enough food (really) and here the fridge is packed, cupboards are stocked and garden is producing (they can't make a garden cause neighbors are hungry, too and steal food at night.

I just gotta pray more. Stopped puffing and drinking so that's a start (no easy feat)! Makes me crabby but being aware I'm trying to be careful and kind.
