Got married first, then the SSN, you pretty much have to wait 10-14 days after arrival or you may not be in the system, we got married about 5 days after arrival (flew home 2-17 and married 2-22). Having married first didn't allow us to get the SSN in her married name, the name had to match what USCIS had, they said we could notify them of the change but it wasn't clear how (for all I know they meant file AOS as a method of notifying them of the change). We ended up getting the SSN in her maiden name, once AOS is complete we'll get it updated to show her married name, but it's no big deal at this point. I have seen cases (after we went through the SSN deal) where people only had to show the marriage cert and they were given a SSN in their married name, maybe they were K-3's or something, I don't know all the details but it seemed impossible having seen the procedure used here (they checked some database and if the name didn't match no go). Each state has diff requirements for marriages, so make sure you know the details, some states require a SSN before you can get married, there are also potentially diff requirements like getting blood tests, waiting periods, and of course different fees (though I don't think the marriage license fee is going to be a big deal in many cases compared to the other costs of this process... but you might have to pay using cash or something along those lines too and may even have to have exact change).

Called NVC and got my notice dated May 4 but when I called (strange) they said they already sent it out to Bangkok on May 1...so I'm assuming they sent it the same day they got it ;) Progress!

Now I need to know if I should tell her to got get her police report, single certification, etc...I think so!!!

As far as this bank officer stuff, I dunno about all that since one of my banks is Schwab cause of their free worldwide atm fees and no riopff exchange rates but i can't exactly walk in and ask them for any certified statement from a "bank officer" (what the liars office says to do) to prove my account info, etc.

I'll have to see what they say or send what i can but i don't wanna delay

I went into the local office after on the 14th day of arrival and was given an SSN in my maiden name( the name my passport is in) without any trouble. 2 days after we married we went ino the local office again and upon showing our wedding certificate, were able to change my name and a new card was sent out. No fee, no hassle :)

Donna: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! You finally got your visa thats fantastic!!!!!:dance::dance::dance:

So Chris went to an appointment today at USCIS to find out why we once again have no NOA1.....

After seeing 3 people and being progressively passed up the ranked he finally had an interview with the Chief of Staff of USCIS, who proceeded to tell him that he had no idea what was up with our case, nor what was happening. But he did tell us (and this I like) that it was rubbish that we didn't know anything and that its really not fair that we know nothing. So he proceeded to give Chris his number and email (and his assistants as well) and let him know that he would look into our case and that we should have our NOA2 (be it approved or denied) by the end of the week. I really hope its true, but I ain't getting my hopes up about it, I will believe it when I am holding that piece of paper in my hands.

Donna grats on your Visas hun :) Im glad things are finally working out for you.

Wow lots has happened in here.. I've been so busy with schoolwork, as I'm working on my dissertation as well. MARM, I didn't know you (or was that your fiance?) a psychologist.. great to know I'll know ONE in the states.. ;)

So happy for you getting your visas, Donna.. been a long time coming.

Also congrats on your MAYBE-NOA2, Mara.. like you, I'll wait until you recieve it for real, but it's nice that someone showed an interest in your case, and now you have someone to contact too! :)

Fred, I imagine you're just dying for the next week to pass. I have 4.5 weeks to go, but time has gone so quickly lately that I'm not at all worried..

About AOS, we're going to get the SSN 14 days after arrival, and then apply for marriage certificate. I'm not sure that I need to bring ALL of my medical results from the past (not that there's much there, I've always been pretty healthy) and ALL of my school papers? As long as I have my London Medical papers, my chest x-ray, and my university degree, that should be fine?

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Haha Teekol god I hope your right.

Gemmie sounds like you have everything you will need, an idea, contact your university/collage and ask for a Transcript, its that sheet (well mine is 5) that outlines what courses you did and what grade and GPA you received for them, if you have to have your degree certified in the US to work they will need that one, and it will be easier if you have it before you go (though your smart so you have probably already thought of this :P). It may also be an idea to speak with your doctor (not the medical guy) to receive a copy of your medical history, I already have my doctor ready to type on up for me to ensure that everything is an easy transition.

Dani thanks for you wishes, but I'll be honest, I am scared to hope that its going to come true. I have already been crushed enough by this whole process, and I dont want to spend the last 6 weeks we have together here a miserable wreak.

And now I am off to the gym :)
