Thanks everyone for your help.

My SSN card has been reissued (unless they lied on the phone, which of course might be a chance) and should be here next week. Then we'll start with the AOS and hopefully do it right.

My alien number, however, isn't anywhere on my visa - the annotation field says nothing, whereas my little brother had other things written there ("Going to sister's wedding in XXXXXX"). So the only A-looking number is the 9-digit one on our NOA2.

You can check your I94 for your A number, hun. The immigrations offic usually assign you one when you get to POE without it. Just check. :)

HYENA: Thanks for sharing your experiences with me. I sure am beginning to wallow in self-pity. I am just not used to it. I felt so selfish having to sacrifice my career and good job in the Philippines, and the family that depends on me - for a life, starting over here in th US and barely even making it and my folks back at home, having a hard time since I am no longer around to help out. It bothers me a lot. I am hoping it will get better soon.

Mara: I don't blame you for thinking K3 now. That might be faster!

Chris/Mara...any senators (or other equivalent lying government scoundrels) say anything? What have they told u?

Happy...I can empathize with you. We're here and she can't work yet; we still gotta get married! Her family needs help and things ain't happening fast enough! This job came at the last minute and just in time! First paycheck should be coming just about time for AOS mailing. I'm sooo relieved!

Now to sell this house and figure out the title mess (ex gf wants to refi but I'm cashing in meaning we gotta sell) Ohhhh what angst I've made for myself!

Feeling frustrated at the moment.

I've applied for some volunteer work in animal rescue care. One of them has already contacted me about working morning shifts (as opposed to the specific shifts I asked for) but I live a few towns over. I was hoping my hubby could drop me off on his way to work but he leaves way too early for my shift. I can't drive, and even if I quickly learned and took my test, I have no car! :( My family all work so they need their cars during the day.

I just had a freak-out at him because I feel so stuck, I want to get my own life here, but after 2 hours of trying to get a position and instantly getting one, I find more complications with living in the country and not having my own transport. There is literally NO public transport out here. I even need a ride to the closest train station. I've been here for over 3 months now and am starting to beat my brains a little bit.

Gemmie, it is volunteering you are applying for, so I am sure they would understand your problem and, I assume, be happy to reschedule your shift. After all, you'd be working for them for free, not them for you.

As for transportation, I fully understand it. I can't get anywhere without a car either (but luckily we have one I can use and I can drive, too).

I am about to apply for volunteering at our local YMCA. They need someone to deal with kids after school and I'd be happy to help with that. Animal shelters were my first idea, but I know I wouldn't be able to handle that - I'd likely bring about 30 dogs home...

They only have the shifts they offered. Animal care is so competitive. I've calmed down a bit now and apologised to my husband for getting so frustrated, and will carry on applying and offering specific times that I can get to.

Hopefully next year we can get another car... if we ever manage to get a full-time position to afford one, that is. :)

Gemmie I am in a similar position. I have all the papers to allow me to work but we dont have a second car. My husband needs ours for his part-time job so I have been stuck in the house for nearly 6 months now. We cant afford a car until he gets full time work and then it will be a push. I understand how frustrating it is as I know that we would be much better off if I could actually get to work. Public transport isnt big here either.

I know that eventually things will pan out, but it can be frustrating meantime.

Yes, it's true the US is far too addicted to oil and public transportation might alleviate that...but we need oil sales (in USD) to keep the USD in demand otherwise it will collapse (why we went into Iraq and we're considering Iran because both went on the Euro for oil and the USD plummeted....we got Iraq back same week we went in but Iran is on the Bourse Euro thingy). I've heard many many people who've come to the US even from Asia whose standard of living has dropped quite a bit after coming here.

Land of feeding the 1% top wealthiest and corrupt politicians regardless of party! There's even a throw you in jail for profit scheme where they're paying cops and judges here so be careful (yes, it's real and they're only starting to catch the bribes)!

I saw we move to AUS!

Umm... I'm going to a BBQ today with my husband's co-workers. :) They're all dying to meet me.

And I'm really enjoying putting together a scrapbook of our wedding pictures and cards (also good for AOS).

I love the fall weather.

Anyone else?

What about our rep Congresswoman Norton? She can't vote on the floor, but she does vote in committees and she can demand for USCIS to get their act together:
