I have an 1100 12 gauge with a 28 inch modified that I bought back in the late 70's, a sweet gun.

the 1100 12 gauge was the first gun i got, my dad got it in 1970 i think, brand new for $65 - it was apparently part of the nex system in vietnam, the nex decided to take guns out of the nex system in vietnam so this gun wound up in japan at that price and my dad got it. nowadays, that same gun goes for around $500-650 used, new close to 1k.

each of my boys will inherit something from their great grand fathers ... each one gets a shotgun ... one gets the double ... the other gets the pump. both guns were purchased new by the respective their great grandfather ... the oldest (pump) was manufactured and purchased in 1910. the other stuff ... well .. I hope to be around a lot more years to enjoy.

An M1 not fired? I've got enblocks ... military ... loaded .... wanna pop it?

I'm not gun expert nor serious collector but I do have a number.

My favorite is this little old pump 22 I bought at a gunshow to hunt rabbits.

I had been using a Shotgun, Browning sweet 16 (Belgium) but the stock was taking wear from wadding through briers so much.

The 22 is cheap to shoot and very light to carry. You can run even the cheapest grade ammo without a problem.

I have a model 62 winchester .22 looks just like it. How much did you have to give for the pump?

i have a couple of pistols.. Tarus .357..

old savage 12 gauge..given to me at age 12 by my dad

couple of hawk shooting rifles...Marlin and winchester

finally, the most interesting and ugly gun...it was my dad's neighbors and stolen from his house in a break in..they took the sub nose S&W body and placed in on a large Colt frame....to hide it after a crime...

the gun killed a person in a crime...well a murder..took Jules, the neighbor 1 year of waiting till the trial was over to get it returned..later, he gave it to my dad before he died ...of cancer

it shoots S&W short .38s

22-250, Rem model 700 BDL. You can nail those pennies at 300 yards.....

Just out of curiosity!

I'm a gun-newbie and shot fairly good for the very first time (see pic below).

Dimes, quarters, and thumbtags are fairly easy to shoot.

FIRSTTIMESHOOTER50YARDS.jpg

However, i'm looking to buy some really good hand guns or long range rifles.

One problem though, the choices out there are so enormous, that I'm kind of lost in what to pick.

So,....what do you recommend for long range target shooting and home defense?

In addition;

- What type of gun / rifle or shotgun do you have?

- What caliber?

- What kind of ammo do you use & why?

- And what do you use it for?

- Does anybody know anything about the Mossberg 500 Road Blocker below?

This gun>>>G50591.JPG

Thanks in advance.

i don't get it.

Without specifying my list, never cared for shotguns, but prefer a rifle that is good for at least 700 hundred yards. Also into black powder for historical value, but mostly, like getting a black and blue shoulder when firing them. LOL.

Not really into military rifles, at least the more common types, most were short range and would jam. Guess I like precision, distance, and reliability. Only takes one bullet, ha, also frugal. I don't own any hand guns, a son has several and have fired them, looked around, but never purchased one. Personal defense is not of interest to me, prefer raising my family in areas where it's not a day to day crisis. Wife found an apartment building she wanted me to buy, I said, you certainly don't want to live there, then you would need to carry a gun. Nicer to live in an area where you can take a walk at night, without fear of being attacked, and we have way to many areas like that in this country. Just my one cent worth.

All that ammunition and you're sure you're not in a militia.

With the world economy the way it is the only weapon I can afford is a slingshot and the pebbles I find along the road.

Black powder is not only a historical choice, it's also a fun and challenging option. I find BP metallic cartridge rifles highly accurate with "period" sights (1870s vintage) and have a blast shooting out to 1k yards. Don't get to do many 1k yard shoots anymore cause of where I moved to ... and two infants at home that take up a lot of time. Now it's more the 100 - 500 yard stuff.

Turning a shoulder B&B from shooting BP  ... you must not be doing it right or you're putting 100 rounds down range each outing.

:secret: rifle weight, configuration, and load are important for shooting BP without getting into self abuse

If your looking for a pistol to carry.

Try the Smith & Wesson Titanium series, very light and compact. Also get a revolver w/o a hammer.

That way you can fire it within a jacket and it will never lock/jam , Also a revolver will never jam.

For personal home protection, Get you the big knock them down and never walk away pistol.

MIne is stamped Model 06, I like these older ones because the new versions all seem to have a larger front stock, at least the ones I have seen in stores, some of the older ones came with octagon barrel but mine is round.

I forget exactly what I paid but I think it was about 350. Most of the ones I had seen in pawn shops were about 400.
