Hey Guys,

My husband just started looking into how to get PCCs from Bangalore Passport Office and Bangalore District Police office. We were wondering what these two mean? Our assumption is that Passport Office will put some type of stamp on his passport while District Police office will provide him some sort of paper as proof of PCC. Is this correct? If not, what should we expect form each of these offices?

Thanks for your help.

district police wil give you certificate on paer ...while passport office will give you paper as well as stamp on passport also...u have to submit passport in passport office..

to get PCC easily from passport office, first try to get PCC from district office and attach its copy for passport office...so, one police inquirt will be eliminated.....tht will save time

Agree with what pter said. Tell your husband to try to get District police office pcc first then try obtaning passport office pcc. Both will issue paper copy of pcc in addition passport office will stamp passport as well.

Thanks Elima...

He went to Regional passport office last week. He also went to Commissioner's office on Monday and was told to go to local office for something. He went to local police office today. Both places have given him estimates of 2 weeks....let's see if it all works out.

Thank you all for help and suggestions...

For anyone looking at this threads in future:

We got our PCC from Commissioner Office in Bangalore within a week. My husband went to pick it up. They handed him a piece of paper.

We got our PCC from Local Passport Office today (applied 6th March, picked up 25th March). Again, My husband picked it up. They said it would be month, but when my husband inquired by phone, he was asked to come next day. When he went next day, he was handed stamped passport and two copies of PCC.

Bani,

I totally agree with you, ahmedabad passport office needs some kind of training because it seems like they have created there own rules in issuing pcc. I hope they stop harassing people and stop making them run around. I was totally pissed and frustrated when my wife had to get pcc from ahmedabad passport office. Thank god we are finally done with that part.

Alright everyone who will look at this thread in future... Here is a summary on whole PCC saga...

I am a US Citizen filing for I-130 for my husband and he will go through Chennai, India consulate. My husband is originally from Gujarat and has stayed in his hometown till 18 and the moved to another place in Gujarat to finish college (both obviously are longer more than 6months stay). He has been living in Bangalore since finishing college (since 2005). After reading so many posts and threads, we thought he needed to get PCC from police office from 3 places since he has stayed in 3 places for more than 6 months after age 16. We also read that he needed to get PCC from his original passport issuing office (Surat). However, after lots of confusion and two email exchanges with Chennai Consulate, it turns out, he need only one police district PCC and he can get both PCC from police district and passport office from Bangalore. Here is our email exchanges..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear champi,

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, he may get the PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) from Bangalore passport office & also from local/distict police serving his current area of residence.

Hello,

Thank you very much for prompt reply. My husband's passport was issued by Surat, Gujarat, India. However, when we looked at Bangalore Regional Passport Office site (http://rpobangalore.gov.in/frm_pcc.asp), it mentioned that if an application has stayed in Bangalore for more than 2 years than a proof of residence will suffice and they will issue a PCC. So my husband got a clearance from Bangalore RPO instead of Surat. Is this valid?

champi

An immigrant applicant needs to obtain Police Clearance Certificate from (a) Passport office which issued his passport {assuming that the passport was issued more than six months back} and (B) the local/district police serving his present area of residence. We also assume that he has not stayed outside India.

Subject: Regarding Police Clearance Certificate

Hello,

I am petitioning for my husband to come to the U.S. Our I-130 application was approved on March 17, 2009 by USCIS and is currently being processed by NVC. My question is regarding Police Clearance Certificate requirements. My husband has stayed in his home town till age 17 and he moved to different city for college education for 5 years. He then moved to Bangalore and currently living there for 4 years now. Does he need to obtain Police Clearance Certificate from all 3 places where he has lived or he only needs to obtain certificate from his current residence (Bangalore in this case)? Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely,

champi

Hi Champi,

I have gone through the above thread,

I have few queries like,

Is it mandatory that we need PCC from both Passport Office and Commisioner Office ( I am applying for Australian Visa ) ?

In that thread its mentioned that you have got stamped passport and two copies of PCC, is it the same PCC which you got from Commisioner's office ??

If not, what is actually the difference between the PCCs obtained from the Passport Office and Commisioner's Office ??

Please reply, Thanks in advance,

Best Regards,

Hi ajugeorge,

I am not at all familiar with PCC requirements for Australian Visa. For US Immigration Visa, they require PCC from passport and commitioner's office. Frankly speaking, I am not too sure about the differences between two. All I know is, you have to go to two different places and fill out two different forms to get these PCCs. When you get the PCC from passport offfice, they'll ask for your passport. It is during that process that they stemp the passport. Note that during interview time, consulate did not give us our original PCC back so I guess the stamp on passport is a proof that we cleared PCC.
