So I just realized my Case # for CR1 starts with MTL. does that mean my cr-1 interview will be in Montreal? but I live in Vancouver. :( does that mean i need to fly to Montreal? their interview time is longer than i anticipated.

I wanted to go through CR1 route instead of K3. I guess K3 is going to be my best bet to moving earlier. does anyone have any more info on this? i thought i read/heard somewhere that vancouver only does K visas? not sure

Every Single person in Canada going through for a CR-1 (or IR-1) goes to Montreal, as Montreal is the ONLY, consulate that handles CR-1 (ir-1) cases in Canada! So yep, your going to Montreal., Fork over the $$$$$ (air travel, hotel) for the shortest/easiest interview in your life (for 99.999% of applicants). There is a HOTEL thread here in the canada forum that lists peoples experiences. And there is a bus shuttle from the airport, that takes you downtown, drops you off at the train station, where you catch a smaller bus to the downtown hotels. Its cheaper if you buy the return ticket at the same time. http://www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_sta...t/_aerobus.aspx

hotel thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=90924

and if you look near the top of the page, you can find CONSULATE REVIEWS.

Vancouver does K3 and K1 (No cr-1) Time wise, i believe the Cr-1 and K3 run around the same time now, so the K3 is much less attractive as the benefits of the CR-1 outweigh the K3. And as u know nothign goes as planned with immigration, lol Back in 2004 when we went through the process, we did the K3 and CR-1 at same time and my CR-1 was completed well in advance of the K3. In fact I had already been living here in the USA (on the CR-1) before the K3 was even approved, lol Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

As flames said...yes, you'll be interviewed in Montreal.

I think the benefits outweigh the longer wait, by going through the CR-1. Only you can decide.

Best of luck! (F)

Thanks for the link. I'll read up on it. i just hope the interviews doesnt take as long as what I have read in the past threads. ya. my employer is basically going through a change due to economy and "weeding out the weak". And they decided to keep me until i leave. Its just really annoying that they keep asking me when I will be leaving to find a replacement that i can train (which i have to train for 2 months minimum). sigh.

Have a look at the Montreal timeline to interview thread for CR1/IR1 - this will give you a good idea of current wait times. From completion at NVC to actual interview - you can expect around a 3 month wait currently.
