BOARDER CROSSING WITH k1 VISA...POE

Not sure if I should post this here...

but once you have your visa, the day that you cross (I plan on driving) are you allowed to bring all your stuff with you? Like if I pack up my car with a lot of my belongings. As well, if we hire a mover to drive a truck over, do they need papers to clear customs?

Just curious.

I usually drive over, i'm assuming the day you show up with a K1 Visa, they must direct you inside to stage 2 customs for processing?

Thanks,

:)

Yes, you can. Bring all you want, it is yours, it is not considered a foriegn purchase. As long as there is not anything illegal, bring it on. They MAY (or may not) search the vehicle but you are exempt from customs taxes.

There may be certain restrictions on certain items, alcohol, tobacco and firearms are some. Alcohol and tobacco are cheaper here than Canada so no need to bring any of that. You can legally bring firearms for lawful purposes but they must be declared upon entry. They will usually check to see they are not stolen, bring any Canadian permits and registrations. You won't need no stinkin' permit or registration here. If you don't have a gun already, we'll get 'ya one after you have your green card. You're on your own 'til then. Be careful

A truck may need special forms, I do not know, but they can legally bring all your belongings duty free. Check with the moving companies or truck rental places. Lets put it this way, if you get caught bringing a truckload of guns into the USA and you don't have the proper permits....They'll bust ya! They'll take away your truck and you'll have to carry the guns yourself!

Definition of Canadian? Unarmed American with health insurance.

I'm still deciding to do a Uhaul for my stuff or having a trucking company do it. I did contact one, and they require a copy of my driver's license (ID purposes), a copy of the K-1 Visa, and the address it was going. They said that's all they needed. It wasn't a moving company, it was just a trucking company that I deal with now in the job that I do. Its actually cheaper to do that (pay for 6 skid spaces and stacked them high) then it is to get a UHAUL. The moving company was ridiculous pricing wise. My skid spaces are going to be $175 each and the uhaul is almost $1500 plus tax, then the cost of the uhaul trailer to haul my car, plus the gas to get there. I'd much rather jump in my car and drive there and await my belongings. Your right, once you get to the POE they will direct you to the next step so that they can activate your visa. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
