Hello,

We got our approval for I-130 last week! Yippee! I have been doing alot of reading and have found conflicting information everywhere about the process and it seems to be different for lots of people.

We got the approval letter and it states that "NVC processes all approved immigrant visa petitions that need consular action. NVC will then forward the approved petition to that consulate (which will be SYdney, Australia). The NVC will contact the person for whom you are petitioning (beneficiary - that is me) concerning further immigrant visa processing steps."

Now the confusion comes with the following:

The US Consulate website in Sydney say that I will receive a packet of forms to fill - However, the NVC process on VJ says that my husband will receive a packet ? We want to get everything ready so it can move quickly so will I be submitting my husbands AOS and IRS transcripts at the Sydney Consulate or does my husband have to send them to the NVC?

Also, where will the bills (AOS and IV bills) be paid? Consulate website says Sydney, NVC process on VJ says direct to NVC.

Does anyone have any information as to what happens? Also, can I get my police records and medical done before I get the packet to save us time?

Hope you can help.

Thanks!

I don't think you need to do this until your file arrives at the Consulate as they both have fairly quick turnaround*. You can of course start reading up on what vaccinations you may require and if possible get them done at your GP ahead of time.

* The exception being overseas police certificates if needed. If you do require police clearance from another country now is a good time to look into it.

Edit to add: Download and read through the Form DS-2001 PDF file off the Consulate website if you haven't already done so. That has all the information on what documents you will need to provide, etc

Thanks Kaffy. I have read the DS2001. Therefore I can assume that the NVC info on VJ is not correct and that all info will be sent to me?

If you are following the I-130 or otherwise now known as the CR1 path after the approval, you will need to follow the NVC steps outlined in the LingChe's guide below. Please have a read through couple of times to get a good understanding of what's required.

However, if you are following the I-129F path or otherwise now known as the K3 path after the approval, the Aussie consulate will contact your spouse with a packet 3. Meanwhile, you may start preparing the documents you will need for affidavit of support (form I-134) related to K3.
