most right wingers dont take him seriously Paul. Your right the guy is way out there and ironically he is from Berkley

my mistake, I meant he graduated from Berkley. The irony being that Berkley is very liberal.

We fondly refer to it around here as Beserkeley.

"What? Cows in Berkeley?"

Ah yes, I remember that thats what Michael Medved referred to it as, also. I remember that when I was working in the Beserkeley area I got a chance to go to the university. On my visit I think I figured it out, Its all the pot smoke seeping into the classrooms from the street people on the adjacent block. I took a walk down this block and the bumpers sticker philosophy was in full force.

I listen to Michael Savage from time to time - but that guy is seriously out there and there's only so much I can listen to before it gets old.

Scary that his callers take him so seriously. If we had people like that on the air waves in the UK - guerila satirists would be bombarding them with calls.

I thought he was from Rio Linda:

Best loudmouth-ful The Rush Limbaugh Burger at Bowinkles

Long since Rush Limbaugh ditched the Sacramento AM dial for the nationally syndicated airwaves, the conservative sage has mocked Rio Linda as a backward little town full of slack-jawed yokels. "Or, for those of you in Rio Linda … " is Limbaugh's standard transition into dumb speak, which he dusts off whenever something must be translated for the layperson. So, maybe it's fitting that Bowinkles, a lonely little burger stand in the town Limbaugh derides, offers its own left-handed honor for the man who makes the place sound like a haven for toothless illiterates. The Rush Limbaugh Burger, $6.99, comes on a kaiser roll with bacon, cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and two half-pound ground-beef patties. (For those of you in Rio Linda, that's one pound of meat.) "You supply the attitude, we'll supply the pound of beef," reads the slogan on the drive-through menu.

912 Oak Street in Rio Linda, (916) 991-9996.

Actually to hear Rush tell it (IIRC) the Rio Linda bit is a dig at the "Oh so sophisticated elites"

who assume the folks in "fly over country" are ignorant.

Rush is from a modest sized area himself.

The Democrats don't need to do much, Rush and the Republicans are pretty much doing it to themselves. Just give it a bit more media exposure, and Republicans probably wont get one of their own elected as President for the next 20 years.

In 20 yrs?

Obviously you need to take another look at the charts which show shifting demographics in a number of areas.

..... unless you are predicting some huge, future shift away from the dependency on social programs.

If Obama is successful, which he probably will be. Some of the pieces of the Democrats agenda is going to be here to stay. Like it or not.

With that, its going to take awhile for the Republicans to adapt. The current party leaders are still stuck on a message that is becoming increasingly irrelevant. Good thing for the party, most of these people are old and several are not seeking reelection when their term is up.

I said 20 years as a ballpark. It could be sooner or it could take longer depending what happens. If there is a concerted effort to adapt a new message, it could be very quick. But likely its going to be driven by a slower generational change.

The party will have to adapt, or a new one will form up to take its place. The question is how quickly will that happen?

And what would some of those adaptations be?

If they become more like democrats, they loose the base and they won't pick up many votes anyways because as we just saw... "why vote for a democrat-lite, if you can just vote for a democrat?"

I think a new party will emerge but I doubt it will rival the democrat party.

In 8 years, the number of people relying on the Govt' will be past the tipping point.

The Dimocrats are as stupid as the day is long. If they think that this strategy is worth the time spent on it, they're clueless. The problem is that liberals pretty much only talk to each other, so they have no idea how are delusional they are in relation to the rest of the populace. The administration is so incompetent that they easily believe that manufactured dustups like this will keep people from notincing how much farther into the crapper their policies are taking this country.

Rush is a talk show host. Barry the Great Unifier and his sychophants only show how shallow and short-sighted thay are taking on a talk show host in a silly attempt to keep people locked into the idea that the first Black president can't ba allowed to fail. Obama is a fraud, telling the Middle Class how they have to sacrifice while he throws lavish White House parties with $100 a pound beef stock and entertaining his own kids with celebrities fests.

At the same time, his party - the party of the little people - is trying to end voucher programs for disadvantaged DC youth that allows them to go to elite schools, like the one his girls attend. Such undertakings are essential to rewarding the teacher's union, an outfit that demonstratively cares more about maintaining the powerbase of its membership than educating children. The competition allowed by voucher programs is one they could not endure.

And, don't forget, the market failures are no big deal.

But, hey, if the Rush-Barry feud doesn't work, the opiate of Michelle Obama's fashion choices and her "inspiring" biceps, should hold his hardcore supporters, for a while.
