hi...

don't worry, i am not asking about the difference between k3 and cr1... it's all in the guides ;)

but i received approval for both petitions and i am wondering which way to go now...

i already received the package from the us consulate in germany to prepare for the k3.

at the same time, we received the papers to prepare the affidavit of support for the cr1 which will be sent to the NVC and who will forward the petition -after going over it - to the us embassy in germany.

does anyone have a clue which petition is likely to go through first?

thank you :)

met Oct 2001 during my exchange program at his university

Mar 2003 Jon's comes to visit me for Spring Break

Aug 2003 I return to the US on a tourist visa to look for an internship

Looks like the K-3 is the front runner, especially if you already have information from embassy. Which way you choose to go is up to you and your needs. Do you want him home faster, or do you want him home with his green card in hand and nothing more to do for a couple of years?

it looks like i won't get the k3 before july, 3rd [on which date i have a return flight to the us], so i might have to change the flight anyways.

i am wondering how long the cr1 route would take from here [mailing the I-864 and waiting to hear back from them] and if it would make sense to wait for it or just change the flight to a month later and enter with k3

Approved "I-130's" spend about 3 months at NVC and depending on the timeline of your country some other time. In my case I was looking at 3 months at NVC and 2 more in Bogota = 5 months , I decided to got for K-3.

Good luck

Why not do both.................if K3 is the first then arrive with K3 then once you have an interview date for the CR1 then return to Germany for that interview???

but if both arrive at the Embassy at the same time, the embassy will cancel the K3 & just go with the CR1, as the purpose of the K3 is to reunite spouses faster while waiting for the CR1/IR1 to process

You can stay with both for the time being and see what happens.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Typically about 3 months at NVC then add how ever long your embassy is taking after they receive your petition.

Despite our hold up, we still got through the NVC after filing the I-864 in or around 3 months. Good luck to you!
