I am trying to plan a trip to visit my fiance in South Korea while we wait for her visa. Unfortunately, visiting Korea is a hassle, and I can only make one visit (in the foreseeable future).

I am wondering if anybody knows whether if it would be more beneficial to visit her before the NOA2 to have more evidence for an ongoing relationship (outside of our communications) or to be there for her interview.

Any input is appreciated.

This is most dependant on the Embassy you are dealing with. Check your portals link and the Embassy Info and Reviews liniks at the top of the forum to find out how beneficial it is for the petitioner to be there vs. proof of on-going relationship.

From what I've seen it's most always a good idea to be there for the interview. Seen LOTS of guys regret not being there but Zero having regrets for being there!! :bonk:

I'd be there for the interview. The processing times are fairly quick now and being there for the interview is always a good idea, demonstrating both an ongoing relationship and you commitment to the relationship plus she will love you more for being there...

Well, look at this way...you can only make one trip and it will still be evidence of relationship if you go for the interview...maybe more, but certainly not less than if you went before then. I went to the interview and would go again!

I would go for the interview, ideally a few days/ weeks before so you can see a bit of her country and take more photos (ideally with her family and friends) as evidence of ongoing relationship.

I would first find out if you can attend the interview. If you can't attend with your fiance then I don't know, other than moral support, what impact it would have on her interview. I also don't know what kind of proof you have about your on-going relationship. I went to the interview myself, but we'd had about 10 visits during our relationship, and had 4 visits between when we applied for the petition and our interview, so we had lots of evidence.

Certainly it's up to you what you decide, but I'd see first if you'd be able to go to the interview with your finace.

Either counts towards the total number of your visits, of course, but, just like others have been saying, check the Embassy info to see if you'll be allowed to attend the interview, or to enter the facilities and interact with your fiancee or anyone else in any way.

If I had to choose between a 'normal' visit and one for/around the interview date, I'd go with the latter.

Even if the OP cannot enter the US embassy, the fiancee could bring their passport to show that the USC is waiting, and the fact that the USC is in the country for moral support will show to the CO that they care for their fiancee. Plus, if the USC is just across the road in a coffee shop, should the CO have questions about the validity of the relationship and wish to interview the couple separately or together (as has happened in several cases on VJ), it is a matter of minutes for the USC to come to the embassy, rather than having to delay the visa and make a trip to Indonesia again.

 take it from someone who is still kicking themselves for not being there for the interview, please go for that instead. being an american citizen, you can probably get in without hassle. although you may not be able to actually be present during the interview, your fiance can let them know if they have a doubt, to talk to you directly. when i went to india this past february, i just had to show my passport and the reason i went to the embassy, and i was able to pass by everyone in line, and get right in. not sure about s. korea, but yes, hindsight, being at the interview is a great idea, and may help to show your seriousness
