My brother is a leftie and made that mistake while in India. Then again he also wiped his azz with his right middle finger so it would have been worse to eat with the right.

Its funny that USA and UK are not on that list! Anything goes.

leftie? me too.

USA,UK?.... ....................................... :P

Hmm, well the farting is offensive in the US. Belching, too. Fish-limp handshake is no good. Jumping the line or "taking cuts" will get yur butt kicked. Thatz about it for US. We are pretty easy going here..... :star: :star:

Really? Cause I've heard (and smelled :dead: ) sooo many people farting in public in the States. I mean, way more than in other countries, so much more that it sounded like it was something "common" in America. Same with burping. A few friends of mine thought the same.

Guess other people feel different about it - and I hear a hallelujah! :P

Where the hell do you hang out at??! :bonk:

Seriously, at the malls, all the time. I find it hilarious.

This article is a bit off when it comes to China.

Touching Someone - while public displays of affection are still a bit taboo, friends of the same sex are much more physical than in the West. Women hold hands or lock arms when they walk together, and sometimes men will walk with their arm around their buddy's shoulder.

Blowing Your Nose - the Chinese openly empty their nasal passages in public with no shame.

Removing Your Shoes - in Chinese homes, you take off your shoes just inside the door, and put on the slippers provided by your host.

Talking Over Dinner - Chinese restaurants are LOUD, especially if they serve beer. Eating is a social activity and it's probably more rude to be quiet than to talk.

When big jim hit the floor now they say

You don't tug on superman's cape

Can you please provide more research, including an interview with the songwriter's surviving spouse. Also, provide info on which recording studio was used, and how many records were sold, and how much Jim Croce made from this song, and even how much he paid someone to write it. Details matter when trying to be credible :star: :star:

Hmmm, for Brazil that I can think of that's unique would be:

- The "O.K." sign is considered very rude and vulgar; the "thumbs up" gesture is used for approval.

- DO shake hands with everyone who is present and maintain eye contact during the handshake. Women also often greet by exchanging kisses on the cheeks (even amongst strangers who are meeting for the first time), starting with the left cheek.

- Brazilians are expressive and passionate conversationalists. Be prepared to be interrupted.

- When inviting Brazilians to dinner or a party, do not suggest that your guests bring food or drink. Do not expect them to arrive on time, and never indicate a time that the party will "end."

- Physical contact is part of simple communication. Touching arms, elbows and backs is very common and acceptable. Brazilians also stand extremely close to one another. Do not back away.

- Brazilians always wash their hands before eating and rarely touch food with their hands. Use a knife and fork for everything, even fruit. Always use a napkin while eating or drinking. Yes, we eat pizza with a knife and fork.

- Don’t refer to Brazilians as Latins (even if we know that we're technically latin, we don't consider ourselves as such in most cases, latin would refer to people from central america, and yes, we can very much so distinguish "latins" and us brazilians).

This article is a bit off when it comes to China.

Talking Over Dinner - Chinese restaurants are LOUD, especially if they serve beer. Eating is a social activity and it's probably more rude to be quiet than to talk.

one other essential in chinese cuisine is the presentation of the live critter before it's preparation, especially if we are talking seafood. the 14 year old waiter dropping unsaid fish from the plastic bag in which it is presented onto the floor under the table on the female diner's nearly bare feet is essential. the boy then rushing to the kitchen for a broom handle with which to flog the flopping fish into submission as it is being kicked from diner to diner is also a requisite.

after submission of the baleful fish, not a word of apology is spoken about the incident by any of the attendees, as it would not do for the patrons, the restaraunt, the wiater, or even the fish, to loose face. the fish is soemtime thereafter returned in a slightly less lively condition. in Henan, it is usually boiled under pepper corns.

Pointing with the fingers in the Philippines is considered rude, so they purse their lips, and point that way.

Pointing at someone in Albania will get you killed.

Turning down liquor is a no-no too, even if you don't drink it.

They just find my left-handed-ness strange.

waving down a taxi in china is done with palm down and a cupping motion. same in a restaraunt to wave down a waiter. if that doesn't work, just scream really loud "FU-YA-REN!!!!!"

seriously, waving someone toward you with palm up is considered rude. so is refusing liquor. trick for drinking in china involves drinking half or more of the hot tea from the water glass in front of you before the bai ju is served, and being careful to cover your tea glass when the fuyaren tries to refill it. when you are forced to take the shot of bai ju, keep it in your mouth long enough for the host to move onto the next person, then lift your water glass as if to drink, while backwashing the bai ju discretely. nobody other than the fuyaren will notice.

Interview....Ingrid Croce interview

Producer of album.... You Don't Mess Around With Jim ABC Records ABCX-756 (May 1972)

Jim Croce’s first professional solo album released in 1972 includes his first title hit “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim”, plus “Time in a Bottle” and “New York’s Not My Home

How many albums sold..?? Jim Croce — ( 57 Lyrics + 31 Albums )

Who wrote.. for Jim.... JIM Wrote his own..

http://www.jimcroce.com/periodical08.shtml

After his graduation from college Jim waned to continue with music but the closest he could come was as a salesman for a black soul radio station. Jim had his routine down well-he would ask businesses to buy an ad on the station, record the spot himself, and use it on the air. Success followed but Jim was soon convinced that composing jive jingles was not his calling. So, having some time to kill-no pun intended-he headed off to the National Guard. After his discharge Jim married a lovely woman named Ingrid and he once again took up his musical career by singing and playing in bars.

Jim and Ingrid were both involved in the arts and, during the summer of 1966, they both worked at an arts camp, Jim instructing on the guitar and Ingrid teaching ceramics. Jim found that he had a natural ability in teaching and he continued his work with children, in a school for the emotionally disturbed. He introduced a new concept in education-called 'learning can be fun'-but the principal of the school objected to this unorthodox method and dismissed him

Jim's firing coincided well with Ingrid's plan as she had received a grant to study traditional pottery in Mexico. Jim followed her across the border. While at the school, Jim contacted an old college friend, Tommy West, who encouraged him to come to New York City and work the coffeehouse circuit. Jim took Tommy up on the proposition and he soon found himself gigging at the famous cafes up and down Bleeker and McDougal Streets. His success led to a college tour, some studio session work, and finally a recording contract with Capitol that produced his first LP, Approaching.

The record failed to catch fire so Jim and Ingrid headed back to NYC and Jim found a job with an excavating contractor. The work was hard and eventually he moved to a job as a truck driver. Deciding that a life on the road was not the best possible life for a married man, Jim moved with Ingrid to the wilds of Pennsylvania, settling on an 18th century farm. Jim did most of the manual labor on the farm while Ingrid baked bread and canned fruit and vegetables. Their first child arrived in September of 1971-a boy who they named Adrian James.

After weathering a cold, hard winter, Jim once again hit the music trail, finally getting a recording contract and a hit record-You Don't Mess Around With Jim.

Two successful albums followed, along with several hit singles, TV performances, national tours, and potential film offers. But, after living a reasonable portion of his life as a low-rider, Jim has acquired a level-headed attitude towards his recent thrust into singing superstardom. He knows where he's coming from and where he's going-and he should be around for a long time to come.

Yep, watch my friend and I talk and at times it seems we're both having monologues 'cus one keeps interrupting the other to make an addendum and in the end it's almost like two separate conversations.

"WHEN IN ROME ..." TRAVEL ETIQUETTE FOR BUSINESS AND PLEASURE

SAFANA ZAHILI, DAILYTAKEOFF.COM
 - Tue Feb 17, 5:23 PM

Learn how to behave when you're in a home away from home.

Remember when an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at George Bush on a recent farewell tour in Iraq? Bush later said that that incident was one of the weirdest of his life. But anyone who understands Middle Eastern culture knew that exposing the sole of the shoe to someone is considered a strong sign of disrespect. It is not a weird incident, just a part of Middle Eastern culture. Unfortunately, too many of us have travelled to a foreign country only to be bamboozled by the strangeness of their customs. It does not have to be that way, as long as travellers understand a culture and display the proper etiquette.

Etiquette is the code of principles, such as respect and honour, in any given society. It is really the manner in which you convey those principles to others that can be a little tricky and may make others feel uncomfortable. Travellers want to experience new cultures and live in the moment, but they should also be careful not to offend the locals. There are many ways to travel the world and still be respectful of every local culture you visit, but most of us do not have the time study cultures extensively. The first thing you can do is pick up a book about the country you are visiting. Most travel books have an etiquette section to give you a brief overview of cultural mores.

Meeting And Greeting

Whether you are travelling for business or pleasure, meeting your foreign hosts in the correct manner is crucial to achieving a good first impression. If you are unsure of how a greeting should take place, wait for your host to offer the greeting first.

In Europe, North and South America, a greeting usually consists of a firm handshake, eye contact and a smile. In China and Japan, a handshake will suffice, but your host may bow down to greet you. In the Middle East, your handshake should be gentle and should be accompanied with a smile. Men should not shake a woman's hand unless she initiates the handshake. In relaxed occasions, women may greet each other with a kiss on each cheek.

Dress Code

Many cultures around the world have not yet accepted the idea of women walking around in booty shorts and men walking around topless. Your safest bet is to stick to conservative, comfortable clothing. For business, men should always wear a tailored business suit with a tie. He should be well groomed. In North and South America and in Europe, women can wear a business suit as well. In Middle Eastern and Asian countries, women should opt for a long skirt and long sleeved shirt or blazer. Women in business suits may come off as too aggressive and masculine in many Asian cultures. No matter where the destination, women must always keep makeup to a minimum so as to appear professional.

International Etiquette

Here are some etiquette tips for some of the most visited countries around the world:

Mexico: Keep your hands above the table at all times.

 :crying:

Germany: Use a fork and knife to eat sandwiches, fruits and most other foods.

Austria: Always arrive on time to social engagements.

France: Do not be nosy, as the French value their privacy.

 :hehe:

China: Do not click your fingers or whistle in China; it's considered very rude.

Spain: Never be late for a bullfight, but it is okay to be up to 30 minutes late for any other social engagement.

Italy: Never burp in public and try not to yawn in front of others.

Syria: It is a sign of respect to take off your shoes when you enter someone's home.

UK: Always wait for your host to begin eating before you do.

US: If you are offered a second helping of food, accept it.

 B)

When In Rome, Do As The Romans Do

Before embarking on your journey or business trip, research your destination country to learn a bit about their culture so that you do not offend the locals. If you are ever in doubt about your behaviour, just do as the locals do.

Remember, just because something is different does not mean it is wrong. Customs, behaviours and religious practices are unique to every culture and should be respected when you are in someone else's home. Differences in culture should not be considered deficiencies; they are just different.
